TV series preference: 6-10 eps per season like Netflix or 20-23 network eps?

Personally I like the shorter seasons of Netflix shows. Less filler and the plot usually moves along faster. Plus people have less attention span today, even with dvr. I've got small kids so it's easier to watch a short series like Daredevil or stranger things than a season long show like agents of shield (which I like but fell behind).

Stranger Things was 10 episodes. No filler. Perfect.

We watched the first couple of seasons of AoS and really liked it, but we fell way behind in Season 3 and it is so daunting to try and binge to catch up that we just said eff it.
It's the same with Gotham but we manage to stay keep up with it a little bit better.
I'm a fan of the 10 to `13 episode seasons if the story warrants that number of episodes. I know it will never happen because of contracts and stuff, but I wish these producers would make a show with the number of episodes based on the story and not try and fit a story to a number of episodes.

I guess it depends on the show.
Walking Dead has lots of fillers. I feel like they could just pack everything worth a damn into a 10 episode season.
A show like Lost needed the long episode seasons. When the writers strike was going on and the seasons were crammed with less episodes (seasons 3 and 4 I think); they could have used a little more fleshing out.

I go back and forth on this.
Like someone said, Stranger Things all at once was fantastic. Most Netflix shows are. My only "issue" with it is you're waiting a full year usually before getting to the next season of a show. House of Cards for example, I almost never remember anything but the big plot points from season to season. I'll find I don't keep up with the nuances as much.

No commercials is my preference.

I'm getting tired of the shows that have over 20 episodes in a season. The CW shows are a good example.

The discussion is about season length, not whether all of the episodes are released at the same time or not.

I'm fine with fewer as long as they're not too short...Catastrophe on Amazon (new season is on Kodi btw) is a 20-minute show and they only have 6-7 eps per year. It's less than the length of one full-length movie per year. Tough to get as invested in a show when there's just enough there to whet your appetite.

I like what Agents of Shield did this season by breaking a 22 ep season into 3 "pods" with overarching elements throughout but different focuses in each. Still there's some filler but it's a great concept imo

This. They took the "winter break" in the middle of a traditional season that Lost began and improved on it.
Gotham is doing the same thing this season and its working really well for both shows.

I'm with you there. I guess my comment more relates to 1 hour-long shows. I can handle a longer season more with shorter shows. I don't feel like Parks & Rec or the Office had too many episodes in a season.

Well just watch other shows.

I think it should go however long it takes to tell the story.
I prefer 10 episode seasons. Anything beyond that, I start to lose interest.

20+ Episode seasons feel like such a chore after watching seasons around ten episodes. Way too much filler in them.

Drama- ~10
Comedy- I'm ok with ~20
30 Rock, seinfeld, arrested devlopment, etc all have "longer" seasons which is find because they're shorter episodes and aren't nearly as demanding mentally.
Dramas I like the shorter ones. LOST is one of my favorite shows of all time but I doubt I'll ever get around to rewatching anytime soon considering there's like 23 episodes a season at 50 minutes a pop. That's grueling.

Netflix's Marvel shows at 13 episodes were too long. 10 is about right.
That said, The Wire had 13 per season and it was okay. It's all about filler or not, not the number of shows.

to me, 24 is much better with 12 episodes instead of 24. I liked that, for the most part, there has been one primary enemy instead of the midpoint "we finally caught him...oh crap he wasn't the real enemy" plot line twist.

I can agree with this if it was only 1 break. But it seems like AoS and the CW shows take multiple month long breaks throughout the season. Usually when things are getting good.
