Yeah, I think that's about right. It had great potential, but it didn't really have that big moment, or series of moments. I mean this guy is an unbelievable narcissist/sociopath but we don't really ever understand the depth of it, or how much he really emotionally manipulated the reporter/author. I think it was also a mistake for the audience not to get to know the kids/victims.

I didn't think either of them sucked, but they weren't great by any means. The movie didn't allow them to be. It was such an odd way to tell that story.

Seems like it died on the editing floor to me. I remember thinking that some key scenes seemed to had been cut.
