Agreed. The mystery of "is the universe presented to us magical, or not?" was a huge part of the allure of the show. It was a lot like Lost in that way.

I'm already preparing myself for this weekly thread to be constant comparisons to the first season. To me, if you're not looking at this like a completely different show, you're doing it wrong.

I'm very excited about this and think the cast has a ton of potential.

i'm going to do that. i'm relieved that this season doesn't appear to have the same sort of bait that season 1 did

that way it will be much easier to judge the overall show itself

I actually just got around to watching season 1 this weekend. I am really in shock at how shitty the last episode was. It was like Nash Bridges meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I re-watched Season 1 a few weeks ago. I see no way Season 2 comes anywhere close. But I'll be tuning in.

I have no problem with how it ended. Did you expect them to round up each and every perpetrator in the Mardi Gras clan and show them all being sentenced by the judgeM

no cool factor to keep interest? you see the show for what it is

I do believe there are some occult elements to this season as well..if I remember reading correctly. How much? I have no idea.

Yeah there will be a couple different directors for the episodes. Definitely going to affect the feel from episode to episode.

Season 1 of True Detective was probably the ONLY season of any show ever to have one director. It's not going to affect anything. This is Nic Pizzolatto's show.

The ending fit the nihilistic theme of the show. All their years of work was ultimately for nothing. They essentially killed a pawn. Childress was simply a creation of the true monsters who still remain in power.

That's fairly true. But I never expected them to take down the entire organization.

Looking forward to season two. Overall I like the cast and where the story could go. It will be hard to live up to S1. But I'm ready.
