Although Joseph Kosinski has long been attached to helm a big screen follow-up to his 2010 TRON Legacy, news from the grid has been fairly quiet these past few years. That appears to changing today, however, as Vancouver-based VanCity Buzz is reporting that TRON 3 is gearing up for a fall shoot! We’ve heard rumblings recently that a new TRON feature was being eyed at the studio, but we have not as of yet received any official confirmation. According to the outlet, however, cameras will roll beginning October 5!

According to the outlet, Garrett Hedlund is attached to reprise his role as Sam Flynn. Although her name isn’t listed, it’s hard to imagine the story continuing from where it left off in TRON Legacy without Olivia Wilde’s Quorra returning as well.

Released in 1982, the original TRON underperformed at the box office, but nonetheless managed to find an important place in pop culture over the next few decades. The sequel was scripted by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz from a story they developed with Brian Klugman and Lee Sternhal, based in turn on characters created by Bonnie MacBird and original TRON helmer Steven Lisberger. That film’s worldwide box office exceeded $400 million.

First rumored last month, it appears that Walt Disney Pictures is, indeed, moving forward with TRON 3 as The Hollywood Reporter today confirms Olivia Wilde will be reprising her role as everyone’s favorite ISO, Quorra! She joins fellow returning lead Garret Hedlund, who is set to return as Sam Flynn. TRON: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski will also be back with plans for production to take place in Vancouver later this year.

Wilde previously reprised the Quorra role for an episode of the short-lived animated series “TRON: Uprising,” although the episode itself took place prior to the events of TRON: Legacy. Most recently, Wilde starred in director David Gelb’s horror thriller The Lazarus Effect opposite Mark Duplass, Sarah Bolger, Evan Peters and Donald Glover.

There’s no official title or plot info for TRON 3 quite yet, but check back for updates as soon as they become available.

I feel TRON Legacy was an overly despised film. It was exactly what I was hoping for. If they can get even close to TRON Uprising, then it should be great. It's a real tragedy that series was cancelled, since it's clear they were trying to build it up to be the next Avatar. Maybe Netflix could pick it up, but since it's an ongoing franchise by Disney, I doubt they could make it happen.

I still say that the motorcycle scene was the best Imax 3D visuals I've ever seen. Also, it still is a great experience to watch at home, especially if you have a 120hz monitor.

She was so sexy in the first one. Short hair usually doesn't do it for me, but she was on point

Finally.

Wish they could somehow conclude the anime show though.

Loved the second one. My only real issue with it was Bridges being a little too dude-ish.

I thought the elements were there for a good movie - incredible visuals, great soundtrack, fun setpieces. But ultimately it just had a very bland plot.

A more polished/interesting script can definitely improve this franchise.

Daft Punk showed they weren't just some house music producers with this soundtrack... absolute perfection
