An admittedly lazy one at that.

Not necessarily in order, but:

Omar
Bodie
Colvin
Bunk
Cutty

I'll admit this list changes quite a bit. I went from disliking Prez as a cop to being a fan as a teacher. On the other hand, my opinion of Stringer dropped as the show went on.

I thought Avon was one of the weakest characters in the whole show. The guy just didn't really convince me. Not like Marlo.

Strong list. I'd probably put Lester or Prez in there in place of Slim Charles just to have a cop. Lester was super smooth but Prez had a great arc. Very similar to Bodie in that you go 180 on the guy from his intro.

And I'm on record as saying Bubbles is the greatest character in TV history.

2 of my favorite moments in the series are in season 1 when Lester proves he's not a hump and gets D'Angelo's pager # and when Prez breaks their pager codes.

Also, Carver has the most underrated arc on the show. He starts as comic relief and becomes one of the moral centers, as well as a good cop. And his final moment with Randy is the most emotionally affecting moment not involving Bubbles.

Yeah, I dug Carter as well. There are just so many great characters on the show (good and bad).

And good call on Nicky's girl's tits...those things were pretty stellar.

I disagree and see them as one glorious entity. However, in an abundance of caution I'll drop McNulty.

And my dark horse candidate for the last spot
5. Sgt. Landsman -- played your invisible civil servant that didn't do much of anything, but was always in the middle of everything, when all he really wanted to do was make his pension, eat and look at dirty magazines.

Agreed on Carver.

Disagree on the last part. In support of my disagreement, I respectfully submit the name Duquan.

It's been about a year since my last rewatch (whenever HBO released the HD redo) so I could be off, but wasn't Carver a huge bitch when McNulty made up the serial killer to get the funds to go after Marlo? Or maybe that was Kima.

I do agree that he had a really good character arc overall.

Nobody had the exact same 5 as me so I'll list them:
Omar
McNutty
Bunk
Slim Charles
Lester

Eta: Bubs is hard to leave off as are others.

Yup. Kimas arc was great too. As messed up as everything was and as wayward as she got, the city couldnt destroy her inherent goodness. That shot looking out the window with her kid was just perfect.
