Oh, ok. I had no clue I've talked about enough directors here over the years that you literally could have been talking about almost anyone.

That does remind me though I still need to watch The Tree of Life. I haven't been watching movies at nearly the pace I was these past couple of years, I need to get back into them.

I'm not a total Malick fanboy like some here but everyone should watch Days of Heaven. Badlands is really good. The New World I thought was underrated. And honestly I wasn't too big on The Thin Red Line either, haven't seen it since it came out.

Read it all. Congrats on 20K. I've always been lukewarm on that director so I'm sure I just lurked silently during those debates.

About time you came around to the brilliance of Caddyshack II.

Oh this is a Tree of Life thread, cool. I loved that movie. That movie brought up so many feels for me, particularly the dinner scene when Brad Pitt got mad. Jessica Chastain was great too.

I saw this at the theater and when it ended some guy said "what was that?" He looked to be in his 40s too. This movie isn't meant for general audiences.

Yeah. Just really a brilliant film. Given my first reaction to his work, I was honestly shocked how much I enjoyed it.

i watched the first 20 minutes of ToL but I was distracted and stopped

I want to watch it someday, just couldn't press on that day.

And I've seen and enjoyed plenty of slow movies(Tinker Tailor, Upstream Color, etc)

I mean it was a war movie, come on! And I promptly hated it, fell asleep, tried to watch it again, but turned it off. Ugh.

You were not wrong about Thin Red Line. Ugh indeed.

Good post.

It's crazy that I started here after you and have way more posts than you do now.

Hopefully you realize I'm no longer Dan.

As to your subject:

There is this interesting picture of the progression of movie snob. Last on the list, and the most advanced is one who loves every film...or at least can find something about every film to love. I think if some people realize this then richer conversation can come about...and ideas can change...and maybe even repeat viewings can come about.
If you haven't seen Badlands, you should.

No no, haven't thought that for a long time.

It's certainly related to that. I mean that stage is really about accepting films for what they intend to be and not trying to force your expectations or beliefs on to a movie, "It should do this," thematically speaking. There's still a conversation to have about the mechanics and the bits of film making (structure, etc.) but when it comes to enjoyment that's really really hard to talk about.

Watched them all. I enjoyed Badlands quite a bit.

Had the same experience with it. I was completely not in the right place to watch it when I was 18.

Mastermind was awesome because he had crazy input.

Dan was hilarious because he couldnt take a clue and everyone tried to help him in such a nice way.

Until we all requested he was banned. Was that like a group vote almost?

And Dan's personality has remained in some form around here...I have my suspicions.

(I never REALLY thought you were Dan, that was just part of the hazing... Lest you forget iwy's Photoshop)
