How talked about was the "father revelation"?

Was it totally mind blowing?..and did you believe it to be true or a trick/ploy by the empire?

My uncle told me before I got to see the movie. I reacted exactly like Luke.

I found out via Chris Farley in Tommy Boy

Did not get the joke. Asked my dad. Starting watching Star Wars knowing that revelation.

I did not get to have that moment. :(

That 3 year wait must have been hard.

I was in total denial!

I was certain it was just a trick by Vader and I anxiously waited for the truth to come out in the 3rd movie!

True story but it sounds fake...but true.

So our parents let us play hookey...and took us to see it....and the line is insane..,like an hour.

So we are in line and this dipshite ahead of us is reading a book. And he turns to us and says, no way. Darth Vader is the dad.

That's how..

A collective gasp with spatterings of "no way!"

Saw it at Bon Marche Twin. The battle of Hoth was intense on the big screen having never seen it before.

I was 8. It was my cousin,s 6th birthday. My mom took the 2 of us for his birthday present. There was a guy roaming around the theater before the movie started in a Darth Vader costume. Looked just like him. My cousin started screaming bloody murder. He climbed over me and up my mom. He was wrapped around her head. I thought it was hilarious.

Movie blew me away and I was speechless with my jaw dropped from that moment in the film. One of the greatest days ever as a kid!!!

I was literally stunned. I was like, what did he just say? No...no...that can't be. My friends and I were convinced Vader was lying.

No.

I use to read a magazine called Starlog back in the day and they revealed this was going to happen months before the movie came out in theaters.

We had heard rumors. Still one of the most well-done "reveal" scenes - thank God Lucas had the good sense not to direct this one himself.

I wasn't sure. It rang true - the subtle hints. Obi Wan dancing around the subject of his father. Even Vader's reaction in Star Wars, "The Force is strong in this one."

I have a very distinct recollection. Walked out of EP IV A New Hope. Acadiana Mall, Laffy.

Me, mom, dad, aunt, uncle. Not 30 seconds after we start walking out.....

"Vader is Luke's father"

thanks pops

I remember reading some snippet of it in a kid's magazine (which I guess was as close to a spoiler as you could get at the time) and brushed it off. I was just a kid, and didn't think about it again until I saw it. Still caught me off guard.

The original was the second movie I ever saw in the theaters first run (Jaws was the first when I was about 6 or 7 - another story entirely). I remember our little movie theatre in the town square was slammed with people lined up down the street.
