I thought the movie was good, but it left me wanting more. I found the scenery and the score to be very eerie. A few scenes stood out to me (The Raven scene, The scene where the Witch was in the barn eating the animals), but other than that...it left some to be desired.

I'm not a fan of over the top gore (Saw, Hostel) and I appreciate the lingering anticipation, but the movie just didn't deliver enough "punch" for me. It was good, but could have been a lot better in my opinion.

I liked it.

I also went in not knowing what I was about to see and thought it was good, but my girlfriend hated it. She honestly said it was the worst movie she'd ever seen.

Regardless, I'd urge everyone to see it. I still remember the shock of fear I got when Black Phillip finally spoke. That literally sent a shock down my spine for some reason

My main takeaway: I am now a fan of Anya Taylor-Joy, she fine.

A slow burn, but I thought it picked up and delivered in the end.

We didnt like it. It has some "spooky" moments but the overall story was shite

The verbiage is so bad, we had to turn the Captioning on so we could tell what the hell they were saying

Same here. It was definitely a weird movie. It was more disturbing than scary I guess, I didn't think it was a bad movie.

Honestly...no joke, no troll...it was boring. People always mention "slow burn" as if you're a bad person if you don't like slow movies. I like slow movies that pay off. This movie did not pay off. It was overhyped and it did not deliver.

But to each his own.

If this movie creeped you out or scared you...great!

I truly wish it had done the same to me because I was extremely excited to see it and left the theater incredibly disappointed.

The way this board heaps praise upon this movie and attacks people who didn't like is as "trolls" makes me wonder, "Am I so desensitized to horror/suspense that nothing scares me anymore?"

I truly believe that no horror/suspense movie will ever scare me again. The problem is that my favorite movie genre is the Horror genre yet nothing scares me anymore. I'm losing faith in horror. I worry that no horror movie will ever creep me out again and I want so desperately for a horror movie to creep me out or flat out scare me.

Like I said above, I enjoyed it just because it was something different and I had no clue what to expect going in, but I can definitely see why someone would watch the movie then after the credits roll think to themselves, "WTF did I just watch"

I get why some might not be wowed by it, but me and the gf both thought it was brilliant.

I loved that, from the beginning, the movie lets you know witchcraft is real, shite is legit, and its not going to be a psychological "all in the mind" horror film.

See, I just don't understand the "brilliance" in this movie. I don't get what is so "brilliant" about it.

I view that comment like I view Kanye labeling himself a genius.

I watched this today. I agree with all the positive thoughts. I'm tired of the run of the mill bs, seeing this and It Follows recently are encouraging. Another great one similar to this is House of the Devil.

Overall I thought it was a solid suspense film. The guy that played the dad absolutely crushed the scene where he gave the monologue and started eating dirt. When Black Phillip spoke it gave me chills, and then...........

Captain Morgan out of nowhere.

I don't get people saying this. And it's been said multiple times about this movie. As a Christian myself, I was never like "oh man, I shouldn't be watching this" or "this is making me feel bad"

I get taking serious movies seriously makes them better, causes them to create more emotions etc. But I can't get people taking a movie SO seriously that it makes them feel bad because they're a Christian

Exactly. I'm a Christian and I find it odd when other Christians are scared of a make believe fictional movie. It's weird.

I liked it a lot. Definitely appreciated how it was not just another typical jump scare movie. I gave it 7/10 myself...

It's the fact that it was so deeply involved in witchcraft, black magic, satanism, etc. Don't get me wrong, I know it's just a movie, but I just felt that I KNEW the movie was about all this evil stuff yet I watched it anyway and found it to be one of the best horror movies I've seen. Just felt guilty, I guess.

I had to really, really pay attention to the dialogue. I found it to be mumbled. The movie itself was creepy, but not terrifying. I've visited Salem before in the late fall and it reminded me a lot of the scenery set in The Witch which was a good thing.

There were some creepy scenes (as you mentioned earlier with the Witch in the barn and of course the baby scene). I'm with you in that fact that there could have been a little more of these types of scenes to make for a scarier movie.

Also, what ever happened to the twins?
