Thoughts on Challengers

Oh boy

I really enjoyed it.

A lot of people won’t. I figure people will be in two camps.

1. What the frick, this is bullshite
2. What the frick, LETS frickING GO

I was in the Let’s fricking go camp.

This movie is so over the top directed in so many unique ways, it was fun. People have complained I saw about the techno music while people are talking but I loved it. It was thematically on point.

The tennis was fine for the most part. Then we got the final scene and holy shite the way they shot the tennis match was so fu and creative. Beautiful cinematography

This movie is all the time playing around with visuals and music. It doesn’t land every time but shite. At least they’re trying, unlike so many other movies.

The love triangle in the movie is indeed bullshite. It’s not realistic. But the movie has so much energy and the cast is having so much fun, I found it very watchable.

The cast is very watchable. They’re all unlikable. They are all horrible people. But you sympathize with them nevertheless and it changes scene by scene. Why? It is kinda bullshite, but it’s fun bullshite. I know toxic couples that get off on telling each other horrible stuff. I kinda got reminded of that.

The structure of the movie is also pretty fun. The movie takes place during a tennis match. But as the match progresses, we flash back to different points over the last 13 years to tell us why this minor tennis match means so much to these characters. But it will jump from 5 years before the match to 3 days before the match to 2 years before the match.


Everything with this movie feels very orchestrated. Everything is aimed to feel like a game of tennis. The way people talk in the back and forth till finally someone wins a match. All just kinda fun.

I saw it in IMAX. Worth it for for me. But there are going to be people who hate this movie.

Oh yeah, the product placement was insane

Also, graphic nudity is for dicks.

Also, Zendaya wears a see through bra where you can see her giant nipples and she wears a bit of underwear at one point that displays her arse in such a holy shite way, there were women and men clapping in the theater for that arse shot.
