S 2 is the docks and many people do not care for it - or at least care for it less than the other seasons. In a similar vein, 4 is the school season (which some really like and others not so much), and 5 is the newspaper season. 3 is the political one, and 1 and 3 tend to be favorites, with 5 coming close. I liked the whole series, but I pretty much marathoned it over a couple of months.

I thought the same thing initially. I was wondering why they abandoned the season one story line and appeared to turn it into a completely different show. But towards the end of the season everything will tie in together and it adds depth to future story lines. Stick with it and you won't be disappointed.

It was Season 2 I went back and rewatched after I finished the series. There is a lot of story lines that develop out of that Season. The Wire as a whole is the greatest series of TV I have ever seen.
