The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

---SIAP, I searched for a dedicated thread before posting but came up with nada---
The wife and I were looking for a series over the weekend and on a recommendation from a friend we decided to give this show a shot. While I put on a brave face for the wife, on the inside I was cringing.
The name, the banner they use, the premise... it all sounded like some sort of Disney channel bubblegum comedy with about as much depth (and humor) as the gene pool of a medieval royal family. For some reason I assumed this was going to be Sex in the City but without the actual sex.
I was wrong.
I was so, so fudging wrong.
We both enjoyed it so much we managed to binge the first season (13 episodes @ 30 minutes each) and are ready to do Season 2 next weekend.
The premise is that the central figure, Kimmy Schmidt (played incredibly well by Ellie Kemper) and three other women are rescued from a bunker they've been trapped in for 15 years (kidnapped by a preacher who told them the world had been destroyed in a nuclear holocaust). Kimmy (who was kidnapped when she was in 8th grade) decides that rather than return to her hometown where everything and everyone would be a constant reminder of her ordeal, she will begin a new life in New York City.
She meets cast regulars Lillian (played by Carol Kane, who I'm glad to see is still alive), Titus (Tituss Burgess, also known as the gay spokesman for Unstoppables Wash-In Scents) and Jane Krakowski (once again beautifully type-cast into a self-centered, ultra-socialite role) and their interactions are all pure gold!
Although it took the first episode or two for the show to find its rhythm, once it did it became solid. If you are a fan of humor to fast-paced that at times it's almost too subtle to catch (Ally McBeal, Better of Ted, Scrubs) then do yourself a favor and give this show a watch (we'll probably do a re-watch at some point to catch some of the jokes we missed the first time around).
***FOOTNOTE***
--I've only watched the first season, so please don't post anything that would be considered a spoiler.

I liked season 1. Season 2 almost lost me. Half way through season 3 and its much better.

If you've ever watched 30 Rock you'll probably like it. The 1st season is a little different because it originally supposed to be on NBC. But they declined and Netflix picked it up/

When Titus is on he's fricking on

Titus is great.
Season 2 kind of sucked, but Season 3 has been really good again.

Love that fudging show! Even the minor characters are hilarious. I'd love to see more of Deirdre Robespierre and Mimi Kanasis.

Season 3 was a bunch of side plots instead of one main story but they were all pretty funny except for Carol Kane doing the same bit she's done for 3 seasons.

Finished season 3 last night. Good but not as good as season 1.

The real question- how the hell did NBC turn this down- the first season is damn good broadcast style comedy.

NBC straight up sucks. That's how it happened. Although I will say this -- the only broadcast network show I watch is The Good Place and that's on NBC.

Season 2 is done. While not as good as Season 1 (just like everyone has said), it was easily binge-able.
Tina Fey's character was an awesome trainwreck, the running gag of the robot cameos and Kimmy's often lack of getting high-fived are amusing. Jane Krakowski's character being back home was almost as good as Titus' songs

First episode of season 3 was slow and I was afraid they had lost the formula...it picked up after that, and got back on track. It is an awesome show.

NBC seems to be back to the 30 Rock formula a bit with Great News. Of course, they had to have Tina Fey to make anything remotely funny.

I fricking love 30 Rock.
I fricking hate Kimmy Schmidt. As much as Jane the Virgin.
