Used to be a Departed guy, but the Town has really got me after seeing it on TV like a bazillion times here recently.

Brenner was solid, I wish Hamm was better.

Thoughts?

Loved the Town but the fact that nobody in the FBI or local Boston police knew what Affleck or Renner looked like besides Hamm has always rubbed me wrong.

Liked The Departed better, but to me, they are two different types of movies. Both are solid

The Town was just a movie for Affleck to glorify himself.

Wouldn't a better comparison be The Town vs Heat. I understand the whole Boston thing but they are different type movies IMO.

The only part I didn't care for in the town was the fact that there was not enough depth of the sister's relationship with renner and affleck's character. She was just seen a few times and then turned them in.
And I'll go ahead and say that I think the departed is overrated. :ducksbehindacounter:

Probably Right on with Heat, but yeah I was going more material than plot.

My favorite scene from Heat had to be the highway not so much chase scene.

The terrible, putrid Boston accents in The Departed are almost unbearable. I used to live near there, and they sound nothing like it.

I enjoy both movies but The Departed is better for me. The cast of the departed is just awesome in that movie.

The Town could have been a 3 1/2 epic, but they decided to cut it short for some reason. The plot and characters were there but it just lacked depth.

Watch the extended version.

TOTALLY different movie with different character development and plot twists. It is about 45 minutes longer I think.

The Town was okay, but very unbelievable at times. The departed is a way better flick imo, but come on, Affleck is like child's play compared to Scorcese(sp?).

I doubt even Affleck would say he matches Scorcese but so far I have thoroughly enjoyed both of Affleck's directorial movies, The Town and Gone Baby Gone.
I would say that The Departed is an overall better movie with a better cast but I didn't know The Town had an extended version, which is something I definitely need to check out.

Affleck is a good director. Gone Baby Gone is one of my all time favorites.
