Y'all are insane. It's a top 3 horror flick. The mood, scenery, use of Berlioz in the opening theme not to mention Nicholson's performance.

My only complaint is Shelley Duval. They should've used a more serious actress, although you can see how she drove Jack to drink and go apeshite.

I love the music, the mood and the framing of the film.

Its maybe more a Kubrick fan film than top 3 horror movie.

Go watch the tv version of The Shining that is more faithful to the book. It's terrible.

It's a Kubrick bastardization of a good book.

There's an abridged version on Netflix right now. Should I watch that for free or rent the longer version?

The first scene between Jack and the barkeep is outstanding.

It's a Stanley Kubrick film. Don't watch it abridged or with commercials.

I didn't see it until I was an adult and never read the book but thought it was a very good movie.

One of my favorite (possibly underrated) scenes is when Jack is in the bathroom talking to Delbert Grady (I think was his name?).

It's a masterpiece. This movie has layers that only Kubrick himself understands fully. I love watching and trying to interpret what was going on in his mind.

I love the shining, probably watch it once a year, so I'm definitely not saying anything negative abotu it here.

But your quote above is retarded. Something isn't a masterpiece if the only person who "fully understands it" is the guy who created it. That's the kind of bullshite reasoning these artsy fartsy tools throw around when a painting of the color blue can sell for $100M.
