Oh and SPOILERS......

He didn't kill Blofeld in the end and went off with the girl for love, apparently. Not sure that's thuggish.

you mean they have him acting like he did in the books where he is essentially a psychopathic murderer who doesn't give a flying frick about the damage he leaves in his wake?

I mean he was kind of a thug in the original books, then he started being written/filmed more and more as the upper crust playboy - - there's a reason Kingsmen had such an easy time poking fun at tropes.

He was upper crust in the books as well. See casino Royale and Diamonds are Forever.

Da fuq??????

Have you even watched the Connery Bond movies? The Craig version is as close to that as there has been (and I say that as someone who put Brosnan at #2 on the list of all time Bonds).

ETA: Saw SPECTRE yesterday. It was entertaining and, in my opinion, better than Skyfall (and on par with Casino Royale).

But early Connery is the GOAT Bond and it's not close.

Fify.

And no one like to hear this, but with respect to the books, early Connery would be followed by Timothy Dalton and then Daniel Craig.
