How much will it take before some of you realize that pop culture is anti-straight white male?

This isn't some conspiracy. The studios are trying to make money. They are just doing it in the most artistically vapid way possible. By making a movie about a black female they are able to appeal to a wider more diverse audience. By using an established brand they are able to play off of name recognition and established credibility therefore reducing risk.

Imo it would be better and generally more honest if a new stand alone character were to be developed. That way it would be a character who happened to be a woman and be black, and the chracteristics could be presented more naturally. The way they are doing it, the character is seen as the black version of the old cha racer rather than being able to stand alone. It necessarily makes the chracter more one dimensional.

But whatever, studios aren't going for passable art with these ventures. It will make some money then be quickly forgotten.

Probably in the minority here but I didn't like the first one.

I didn't like the original either. It benefited from good marketing

It was just ok. I don't know that it's worth a sequel, but it is what it is.

I haven't seen it since I was really young. At that point my review of its merits stopped at, "wow, that rocket pack is really cool."

The project, in the early development stages, is being looked at as a sequel-reboot and in a modern-day twist, will be headlined by a black female character.

Too obscure in the eyes of most for many to care...but the period of the story is 1931.

We all know it and just don't want to admit it. Leslie Jones will be cast in the lead role. She's a shooting star.

If it's fricking Leslie Jones as a high flying farm girl, it's no dice at all.

Really hope this is the case.

Are they going to make the Rocketeer a tranny or some horseshite to push the PC nonsense?

A solid reboot would be if the Rocketeer is beating up ragheads in Syria or something.

Hollywood screenwriters may be the most unimaginative people on the planet.

I would be down if it is the chick that played Gamora from GotG AND the story made sense similar to stated above.

Also, how is it when comics make a Supergirl, Spider-Woman, She-Hulk, etc it is bashed for not creating unique and new female superheroes but Hollywood does the exact same stuff and its progressive? They aren't creating new characters for women, they are just gender swapping male characters to lazily make a female version.

Where are all the female writers pumping out unique and original female characters?
