The one hour mark in movies.

I brought this up in another thread and hadn't thought about it lately. I heard about it on a podcast months ago and they gave a few examples.
Most movies are so formulaic that at precisely at the one hour mark you get a big event.
In action movies it is the first time the hero and bad guy meet and the good guy usually loses. The rest of the movie is about the good guy regrouping and beating the bad guy.
In romantic comedies, the one hour mark is when things go bad and and it looks like things are over and the rest of the movie is about getting her back.
I picked a random movie on Netflix to test it and chose The Lost Boys. To the second at one hour occurs the bonfire scene.

At 59:45 during The Interview, you find out Kim might be cool and it turns the movie.

In Star Trek Into Darkness Kirk meets Khan at 59 minutes.

It works in every big movie. It's crazy.

Someone try Star Wars. I can't check without getting on my laptop. I will bet my balls based on what I've seen that in Empire Luke is in the tree at the one hour mark.

This is a great thread. I want more examples

One hour into Terminator 2: Judgement Day the heroes narrowly escape the T-1000 from the Prison.
The protagonists don't lose, but this is the first real confrontation with the T-1000 with all the heroes involved and he pretty much exhibits he is more formidable machine than the T-800 is.

At the 1 hour 30 second mark of Pulp Fiction.
Vincent Vega plunges the needle into Mia Wallace's chest.
Not really losing to the antagonist, but Vega displayed a shite ton of fear had it not worked.
I am actually having a blast doing this on Netflix right now.

If it's on IFC or whatnot, I always try to catch Sling Blade around that mark. It's right before the Yoakum porch-jam flipout.

I tried Pulp Fiction. 1 hour mark is the injection of Mia with the adrenaline. Maybe it qualifies, I don't know. Tarantino is not traditional so I didn't expect it to work. My challenge is to go back to your favorite mainstream movies and see. It is almost universal.

Check die hard. Based on this I can almost assure you without watching that Hans and Mcclane met at the one hour mark.
