He specifically trained for it. They've been planning this mission for decades. Granted, I find it a bit ridiculous he's given the coordinates instead of them just keeping tabs on Cooper, but I don't mind it so much.

Great movie even the 2nd time
I enjoyed it more the second time. Bang when Mann blew the airlock still startled me even though I knew it was coming.
quote:You are making the assumption that they are leaving tomorrow. Discovered NORAD at night, returned home during day (was it the next day? Maybe, but we don't know). MM speaks with his father on their porch at night about leaving (same day they return?), then leaves during daylight. We don't know how many days it has been.
THANK GOD YOU'RE HERE BC WE HAVE TO LEAVE TOMORROW
EVERY movie could be nitpicked to death.

They are us, but in the future. So yes, they originated from Earth. They evolved to the point where they can manipulate time and create wormholes and shite. They created the wormhole so present day humans could escape Earth and eventually evolve into 5th dimensional humans as well.
I'll say it, again. It is absolutely stupid to accept the premise that "They" have so much power that "they" can "manipulate time and create wormholes and shite", but - at the same time - "They" can't more effectively transmit meaningful, concise, accurate, and timely information about how "We" can get out the predicament that exists on Earth.
I don't care whether the wormhole was or was not closed at the end of the movie. The flaw of the movie - WHICH I NONETHESS ENJOYED AND RECOMMEND - is the ludicrous means by which "They" finally see that "We" are rescued.

Remember back to when he first got there. They were all very suspicious and weary of him until he said some kind of singularity brought on by gravity had brought him to the facility. The NASA scientist believed that beings of an immensely superior origin, who could control gravity, had opened the wormhole and thus had brought Cooper to them. As the poster above states, he was "chosen" by beings of an extraterrestrial nature to pilot the mission
I get the "he was chosen by them" idea. But just because he was chosen by them then that means they have to leave immediately?
Sure he's familiar with the craft, but it isn't necessary for him to get familiar with the mission in general?
They weren't concerned with losing years/decades to accomplish this mission but a few days to train were too much. You've been working on this project for years and years, building the ship, crew, scientist, robots, etc... All of this with no idea of who would be the pilot. I guess you were just expecting "them" to bring somebody to fly it at some point.
I guess it bothers me bc It would have been really simple to add a scene or two to make it feasible.

Of course. It's not nitpicking though when a movie has a good bit of plot holes and ridiculous scenes.
I didn't hate the movie btw, and I love Nolan. But this just wasn't that great of a movie.

Just saw it earlier today. Holy frick that was a good movie

It's not a perfect film by any means but I thought it was one of the most original and compelling space exploration movies. Although I haven't seen a bunch on the subject. I mostly enjoyed it because I am really interested in the universe and I thought it was a pretty creative way of making a storyline out of that kind of stuff. I didn't love some of the ending but still enjoyed it a lot.

I used to think Nolan could do no wrong, but I've been disappointed with his last two films.

Interstellar is killing it in China and S Korea. This is a pretty good article about critics and group think when it comes to movies.
Interstellar Box Office
South Koreans are taking it very seriously

The Dark Knight movies are pretty meh outside of the joker.
Posted on 11/28/14 at 9:32 pm to Melvin
Yeah but the Joker alone makes that movie fricking awesome.

Yeah I agree, Ledger was incredible. But the third one is borderline ridiculous. I realize there are going to be some elements of disbelief in all superhero movies but I just couldn't overlook some stuff in that movie. And I just didn't find the plot to be interesting.

Well I don't even really consider the leaving too soon a plot hole, more of it was something pretty stupid there very easily could have been avoided. So it just got on my nerves. Well maybe that is a plot hole
The worst parts though we're the mistakes in the time loop.
It had its original moments, but it took a lot from Space Odyssey 2001.

The third one was awful. Honesty the 2nd one is the only one I care about.

I actually like the first one. But I like the story of how they become superheros more than what they do once they are one. Honestly I don't really like the genre much at all which is why I haven't seen many of the recent ones. I just feel like you know what you're going to get in each one which is fine if you enjoy it but I'm just never dying to see a new superheor movie.

But yeah I definitely agree with you. 90& of those superhero movies are just terrible

Saw it for the second time in IMAX. The entire sequence from the struggle on Mann's planet to the incredible docking scene, and the music.

So I'm not reading every page, but I saw it two days ago. First off, one of the best movies I have ever see. Hands down.
Secondly, I believe that it was clear that "them" "the others" "the beings" those are all Cooper in the fifth dimensional world. Cooper gave himself the coordinates to NASA. He knew NASA needed him or TARS told him. But I think it was pretty clear that all of the extra terrestrial encounters were Cooper in the other dimension.
