It's a great part of the series. Goku tests his power level, speed, and technique and sees his strengths and weaknesses then realizes it's a perfect time to release Gohan on the world.
Then they killed him. Great Sayaman sucked.
Then they revived him with Mystic Gohan which was awesome. Then they killed him again.
He has simultaneously at different points been my favorite and least favorite character.

i never understood why they built Gohan up to become the greatest character then take him in go in the worst directions possible. Mystic Gohan barely got the screen time he deserved. and hes never really done anything after that one fight with buu. i wish they would actually honor that character more.

Two of my favorite moments in the series are when Gohan goes ssj2 for the first time and kicks the shite out of the cell jrs.
Second favorite is the Stand off between Mystic Gohan and buu.

quite possibly the greatest scene in the entire series.
i wonder what made Toriyama say "eh frick this kid" and basically reduce him back down to being worthless

He was poised to be such an awesome badass after the cell saga. I swear part of my soul died after 2 episodes of the great sayaman

No idea. Vegetas attitude, piccolos training, and Goku's drive and power all embodied in Gohan with the ability to go blind with rage and sympathy and maintain that power without losing any speed. I can't imagine why that awesome sentence I just typed never panned out into anything. Dissapointing doesn't begin to describe it

he leaned way too heavily on Goku following Cell. there were great opportunities and moments for Gohan to shine and take on. but he always just went back to the same Goku formula.
i always thought it would be cool if after Cell, Gohan left for awhile. perhaps he is overcome by his father's sacrifice and the gap that it left that he leaves for awhile. only to return when the Earth was in dire trouble.
eta: sort of how Luke goes off on his own after Empire and has found himself when he comes back in Return

I always prayed he'd train with Piccolo in the time chamber or something and elevate Piccolo with him. They needed someone else. And Piccolo, a god fused namekian demon warrior would've been an excellent choice.

Buu saga had it moments. I really enjoyed the series up to the point where they first show Gohan in high school. It was interesting watching him integrate into a "normal" society, but yea, the whole Saiyaman arc was a bit too odd. Had it moments though. But with the Buu saga, I would've preferred if it focused more on Gohan returning to form than Goku and Vegeta. Seems like the current direction AT is taking is to develop Goku and Vegeta more.
I really enjoyed watching Dragon ball where everyone was much closer in strength (recently just re-watched all 153 episodes). DBZ just got stuck in the loop where the Z-fighters kept having to fight someone stronger and stronger. So it's hard to keep that formula fresh and keep people interested. I'm hopeful these movies allow other characters to develop or at least have a contribution.

completely agree. that was always my issue when first watching the show. if you werent a saiyan, you became worthless. the saiyan saga and namek sagas are amazing because everyone could fight at one point. watching vegeta team up with krillian and gohan was one of the best parts.
i never got why they didnt boost piccolo up or introduce another race that could keep up.

This is why I'm always curious about Pikkon and Frieza's race. Seems like they'd be a powerful bunch.

God they missed a huge opportunity with Pikkon

Well actually they didn't, because Pikkon is...

What y'all probably think when seeing a typical Korin post in here.

Just watched DBZ Movie 9: Bojack Unbound. Had seen it years ago before it was dubbed. That movie went by fairly quickly. Bojack shows up well after the halfway point and is gone shortly after. Didn't remember this movie feeling that quick.

Love the story of Bojack
