You hit the nail on the head.
My original TD account was banned by the movie board. I made a lengthy post about a movie I loved, and it was branded as trolling since I apparently wasn't entitled to have an opinion that didn't meet movie board criteria. And it wasn't in any way related to spoilers. True story. It's why I became such an a-hole.

Can you tell us more about this shite movie?

The problem is that this thread is just patently false. I realize it's a killz thread, which means it needs no real response, but it's just incorrect.

On the first page alone there are threads that range from the BBC 100 best films of the 21st Century to the 2015 Point Break and the Bachelor. You can't tell me the latter two are pretentious. And the former is what's great about the board: people that care about art talking about art.

So to say that this board is the High Fidelity Board because it's pretentious is to ignore what amounts to the majority of the posts on this board.

Again, this is a killz thread, so it matters little. He's just a shite stirrer. But if anyone actually agrees with him well... You're just incorrect.

I will admit I do get pissed off watching the movie when Todd Barry claims that Green Day's primary influences are the Ramones and Stiff Little Fingers. Green Day were from San Fran, they clearly were heavily influenced by the SST bands, and not as much by the political agitprop of an Irish punk band, no matter how great they were (and 78 RPM is one of my all time favorite songs, and I'm sure Billy Joe loves it too). The Ramones, of course, were an influence, but I'd argue they were far more influenced by Black Flag's DIY ethics and the sound of Husker Du. I mean, American Idiot's rock opera plotline copies Zen Arcade nearly beat for beat, and....

Wait. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, not pretentious. Not me.

The terrible part is that is my actual rant after seeing the movie for the first time. I'm not remotely kidding. Well, in this context I am, but...

Damn it. I did it again.

Wait...are you trying to say the M/TV Board is elitist? This board has gone way down hill. I blame the over-saturation of superhero movies. The only time it's any good is when Game of Thrones is on. And even then, it's full of people who don't even understand the medium they are watching.

I won't say downhill, but the dynamic has shifted, and honestly, I think it actually has more to do with GoT and the explosion of binge TV than it does with Superhero films.

A good thought provoking film thread gets lost in the sea of 8000 GoT threads during any given week of the season. A nerd fight on the internet, that gets noticed.

GoT threads are like weeds and they choke out good discussion on other topics.
