I picked up this book at the airport yesterday at the Hudson news stand and got through about half of it. Really like it so far. This morning I found out there is a movie releasing October 2nd, so I watched the trailer. Damn.

Is this on anyone else's radar? Has any one else read the book?

I read the book a few weeks ago. It will be interesting to see how much technical stuff they cut from the movie, but I'm looking forward to it.

There is a great interview with Andy Weir, the author of The Martian, on The New Screensavers.

The book is one of my favorites. Very excited for the film.

They'll definitely have to cut some of the technical stuff out. I wonder if they'll just rely on Damon narrating over everything he is doing, as if he's entering it in the log.

Cast-wise, it looks like all the characters from the book are included in the film, so that's good.

I didn't really envision Mark Watney as the Matt Damon type, but when I heard that Andy Weir sort of based Watney off of himself, I thought it was a good choice. Weir and Damon look similar so it makes sense.

Me too. Really hoping for an R rating, but I think I heard they were shooting for PG-13.

I listened to the audiobook, it was fantastic. Like others said, I hope the humor translates, there were some really great one liners.

That's the best part of the book, i cant to you how many timea i have busted out laughing to the shite watney says. If the movie can capture a fraction of that it will be entertaining atleast.

Im glad others are pumped for this and im not the only one. It appears that they went all out for the movie, ridley scott, matt damon, and a ton of other great actors.

I picked up the book after seeing the trailer. Read it cover to cover on a flight to Amsterdam. Was bummed when I finished it because it was such an easy and entertaining read.

Can't wait for the movie. I think the cast is perfect.

Great book! I'm interested to see what they do with the movie. Favorite one liner from the book "Look, a pair of boobs. (.Y.)"

Yeah. Seems really good.

The one thing I am scared Hollywood will do is make Watney have a family (beyond a mother and father). If there's a love story mixed in between him and a crew member or him and a woman and kid on Earth...that's not good.

What made his story so good was he was surviving for nothing more than to make sure his crew knew he didn't fail him and to make sure he didn't fail his crew.

I'm really psyched for this. The cast looks great -- even down to the small roles. (The blonde woman from Halt and Catch Fire is the person in Houston who discovers Watney is alive, Donald Gover is the engineer who comes up with the plan to rescue him) And it looks like they captured the big moments from the book.

I know the scene you are talking about.

What I hope is that's when he's skimming through the other astronauts files and not his own.

Book is solid. It will be hard to translate to the big screen, though.
