Is Bagger Vance God, or an angel?

Take the source for what its worth, but the general idea seems to be God. I've seen similar stories reflecting the same (but can't find now)

His voice in that movie is stereotypically ridiculous

Jack Lemmon's last movie.

I thought it was dumb that he left before it was over and it really didn't seem to add anything to the story.

What? Bagger is one of my favorite movie characters... He had to leave early so Junah could prove to himself he could do it alone.

Agreed. That part seemed forced; I understand the thought behind him leaving, but it could have been done a number of different ways more aligned with the overall story. I thought the official yelling and storming around was terrible; perhaps just terrible acting, but definitely terrible.

Has anybody read the book?

Worth the read? I've seen movie several times, most recently ~2 years ago. I'm always hesitant to go from movie to book, although this does seem like a plot where you might benefit from a little more insight?

Anyway, I got there around seven o'clock, pissing me off.
Anyway, some of her girlfriends was over there,
Making popcorn and watching movies.
I was like, "What y'all watching, hoes?"
They said, "The Legend of Bagger Vance."
I was like, "Get that bull of the TV, I brought a couple of DVDs over."
She said, "What'd you bring?"
"Doctor Zhivago, Brief Encounter, and The Bridge On The River Kwai.
A Lean night!"
