Last Kingdom writing isn’t even on the same level as those shows. The characters often make stupid and asinine decisions just for the obvious point of creating drama. Uhtred carries the show and even he does things that just make no sense. They needed to make the Uhtred character more feral and I think it would flow way better. I enjoyed the show a lot. I’m not bashing it, but it has more flaws than a lot of the other shows out there.

Also Uhtred is fricking worlds better than Jon Snow considering the similarities of the characters. Both the character and the actor.
Aethalwold was also awesome.
Aelswith is just too unlikeable too. I don’t even want something to happen to the character. I just want her to go away. It’s not a good dislike.
Compare that to the brother in Better Call Saul where I just want him to suffer.

I'm taking a bit of an interesting route:
Watched the first two seasons, loved it.
Heard there was a huge book series, started that. On book 3 of 11.
When finished will restart the show and go from there.

I watched the first two seasons and got antsy waiting on season three so I read the first 4 books and caught up to the series at that point. Now that I have watched season three I’m going to read the next two books. I assume season three covered two books like the others.
I love the show but sometimes the production values take me out of the story. For example, when they go raid Briton and meet Skorpa, there is a scene of fleeing villagers and they are wearing purple tie dyes. I think season 3 was better, I didn’t notice anything big on my first watch. I guess Netflix has a bigger budget than BBC.

Yes. There are some really good shows that I enjoy on there but most are winding down. GOT, Roy Donovan, Shameless, etc. The Last Kingdom is just hitting its stride IMO.

Characters in every show make stupid decisions to drive the plot. Uhtred’s actions do make sense, but moreso if you’ve read the books. The books provide a deeper understanding of his character. A more feral Uhtred is the perfect description for what the show lacks. His actions would be better understood if he was portrayed that way. The casting was totally wrong. But still, the show is great.

Just started this show with the wife last night since all our shows are in the dumb "winter break" crap LOST started years ago (annoying as hell)
