For those of you who are fans of the trilogy of books, here is your first image of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen while a contestant in the deadly Hunger Games:

This movie/book series seems like a giant rip off to me

I'm pumped to see this but she doesn't look at all like I imagined katniss. I suppose that is what you get when you have a smoking hot 21 year old playing 15 year old.

I like the look of Lawrence as Katniss.
I'm very excited for this movie. Just started the second book in the series. Please god don't let them frick up this movie.

yeah, in my mind, Katniss would be a little younger and thinner. Not that this chick is a bad choice. it's just that katniss was about 15 and pretty skinny due to malnourishment.
no major complaints though.

This is from Amazon:
quote:
Grade 7 Up -In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss's young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives. Collins's characters are completely realistic and sympathetic as they form alliances and friendships in the face of overwhelming odds; the plot is tense, dramatic, and engrossing. This book will definitely resonate with the generation raised on reality shows like 'Survivor' and 'American Gladiator.' Book one of a planned trilogy.

No shite. Will be interesting to see how the director recreates the arena & how they choose to portray kids killing each other off

She looks good! However, EW definitely photoshopped the hell outta that photo. Jennifer Lawrence definitely has the acting chops, but she's going to have to lose some serious weight to pull it off. She super voluptuous normally, which is awesome...but she is supposed to be a starving child...who loses yet more weight in the games. So, it'll be interesting to see how much she commits to that.

Yeah it will be interesting. Gary Ross hasn't really directed an action-oriented film yet. He is known for directing Seabiscuit and Pleasantville.

She did a good job getting into character for Winter's Bone.

I haven't read it, but it looks like Battle Royale re-written with less violence and made youth friendly.

What I am really wondering is how they are going to pass these with a PG-13 rating. The books are brutal and a lot of killing of both adults and kids.
I wouldn't mind them changing the ending of the series. It was like the writer just gave up and I was a little disappointed.

I have doubts whether or not I'll watch the movies. I enjoyed the books well enough, but it seems very possible that this is going to be the next Twilight.
