Because Hollywood is too chickenshit to go out on a limb and green light unique stories whose prime directive isn't to sell action figures or shameless pandering to the Academy. They have determined that you can't be trusted with original content.

Well that was always the charm of the movie.
I've read interviews about the movie and desire to show throwing people into war situations with no chance of success was a motivating factor in the script.
And it hits the viewer right away.
"What, they have to shoot this bug a 1,000 times to kill him?"
What gun carries endless rounds? (oh wait, Hollywood)
This doesn't make any sense to send infantry, of course, that's the point of the movie.

One of the cooler parts of the starship troopers movie was it was parodying the book. You get two separate takes on the same idea. And it was all super subtle. And while it wasn't the deepest movie of all time, there's a lot to dig into other than the fun of it all.
I remember my dad taking me to see this with my 7 YO best friend. When the tits started popping up, my dad put his hands over my friends eyes but let me watch lol.
