Haven't seen Hateful Eight yet, but I don't think Pulp Fiction was his best work either.

Probably not a popular opinion, but I think Tarantino is a better writer than director. His best movie IMHO is True Romance. His best job at directing is a toss up between Inglorious Basterds and Reservoir Dogs.

QT is guilty of self-indulgence and pandering in his 2 most recent offerings, and i'm his biggest defender. his technical savvy and production value are still top notch, though. I will still go see anything he touches

I don't think he panders, but I do think he's self-indulgent, which I think was sort of the point. QT has come under heavy fire from the newer generation of critics for being too violent, misogynist, and co-opting black culture. So I think instead of answering his critics, he instead just doubled down on those instincts to intentionally horrify them even more.

It's a movie that is gleefully antagonistic to both the PC left and the racist right-wing. This movie is glorious, over-the-top agitprop. And its basic thesis is wonderfully aggressive: the only thing that will not unite racist, hate-filled men bound by the legacy of generations of racist, hate-filled men before them is by uniting in the common hatred of women.

I mean, talk about twisting the knife. Or, more accurately, blowing the head off with a shotgun. We live in an era of cutesy filmmakers who are scared of offending anyone to the point their films don't say anything particularly interesting. QT instead goes for the jugular. It's why he's still vital. He gives zero fricks.

I love Pulp and it's iconic but I only own True Romance.

Daisy stole the damn show. I'm still pissed she didn't win an Oscar.

No it's not. I like most of his work, but could not stand TH8.. The BJ scene was just too much. Very uncomfortable to watch, especially with others.

Comments like this is why I always read your posts on the movie board. Spot on.

Haven't seen Hateful Eight but as to the OP, I think Basterds is a better film than Pulp fiction, so be it. The thing that is interesting about Tarantino is how varied the reactions to his films are and how passionate the opinions are.

I thought it was hilarious. I don't take QTs over the top scenes and blood/violence too seriously. I look at them in a more comedic way. Even though I didn't really love the movie as a whole

I liked it more than kill bill 2, but it doesn't sniff Inglorious Basterds quality. I put it about on par with Django, I liked both

Watched it last night. As usual with QT, I like the scenery, sountrack, and over the top blood, but it just didn't do it for me. All the movies onDemand and I chose this one, nearly 3 hrs long. I love all his other movies, but this one, he just tried to hard I think.

I enjoyed it up until the final chapter; then it turned into a total clusterfrick and ruined the entire thing. Way too many things didn't make any sense, and the SLJ "dingus" scene was totally unnecessary. One of my least-favorite Tarantino films.

i just watched. i strongly disagree

it was mediocre and in some parts plain bad. it was boring, long, and then almost bad movie level bad. music, plot, and acting were a mess

it wasn't funny, interesting, or engaging (at least once you realized what the movie was...basically from the death of the general onward)
