Mixed feelings about this movie. Entertaining, but not sure I could have gotten past about 15 minutes without Denzel being the star.

What you're saying is that it was good.

How do you define good?

Predictable, unrealistic, and stereotypical.

Entertaining.

In my opinion if you were entertained then it was good. I liked it but I liked it for the same reason I liked Taken or John Wick. It kept me entertained throughout. Wish they would have explained his back story a little more but its whatever

I agree. But everyone has their own view so that's why I asked.

I liked the movie because it was entertaining.

The only thing that really miffed me was that it really didn't have anything to do with the tv show from the 80s. I have the same complaint about the Jump Street movies. I really enjoyed them, but why in the hell call them Jump Street if they are nothing like the tv show? They could call them anything else, and I think they would still sell just as many tickets.

Spoilers

I hated it. It's like they wrote the whole movie backwards. "Ok, hey we want Denzel to end up at Home Depot so he can frick up each bad guy in a different department. Just write some crap to get us there."

Saw it for the first time this weekend. Had no idea what it was about except for this on my cable guide:
quote:

"An ex-BlackOps agent emerges from self-imposed retirement & decides to help the downtrodden after he saves a young women from vicious Russian gangsters

Was a little like a blending of Man On Fire and Eastern Promises, but no where near as good as either.

Like GLSUG, I wished they'd used flashbacks or something to explain the backstory more. They could have spent more time developing more of the Russians than just Csokas. They spent way too much time showing the Russian tatoos, to not talk about what any of them represented.

IMHO, they overdeveloped and spent way too much time on the co-workers. Might have felt different about the co-workers if they'd been interesting like the neighbors in The Punisher.

It was worth watching, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again. Probably the first Denzel action/thriller/crime movie I've ever said that about.

frick that!!!! Robert McCall would beat John Wick's arse and take a shite on his worthless corpse. He'd equalize that mf'er in about 8 sec's.

I'm speaking of Denzell version not TV version.

Kinda the impression I got too. Same "oh, he's a bad mofo trying hard to be peaceful" vibe, but not not quite to the same level as John Wick. Good bit of action and snuffing of bad guys, again not at the same level as John Wick.
I preferred the puppy and the car in Wick over the skanky Russian ho in Equalizer as the tipping point that turned him loose.

However, Denzel would have been better than Keanu in Wick.
