Roland looks like he's been getting a little too much sun these days.

t's a sequel to the books. He has the Horn this rotation. What happens in the movie happened after the last novel.
I didn't know this. Smart move on their part.

I finally saw the trailer. My thoughts:
I'll get the one bad negative out the way first, the rest is positive:
1. frick them for making the trailer music a God awful cover of a Behind Blues both because the cover is shite and because in this movie Roland, who is iconically known for his piercing Bombardier's blue eyes doesn't have blue eyes. That choice of song is either a purposeful metta insult to book readers, or the producer was too stupid to make the connection.
2. Idris Elba actually looks pretty good, I have no more reservations about him as Roland. the scenes of him shooting his iconic pistols looked like they were done really well.
3. McConaughey will probably do a good job, but I was hoping he would be a little more in the shadows and kind of ominous, looks like he'll be all out in this movie.
4. If that scene between Jake and Elba is at the weigh station and he's already scene The man in black that would be cool.
5. I know the direction they're taking the movie, and I understand it's after the novels and it's an alternate universe, and that trailer looked pretty good and I'm excited about it, but goddamn do I want to see Eddie and Detta on the big screen with a classic Roland and Jake and Oy. It sucks so much that we arent going to get them.

please tell me the role where he didn't look good?
ETA: when i heard they cast a black dude, i was all WTF, that doesn't work in the later books due to racism. then i heard it was Elba and was all, WGAF, he'll out-street it.

He's usually awesome man, and I think he'll be great in the movie. I even said at the casting he could probably nail the tone and core of the character of Roland, but if I was making a movie based on the life of Shaka Zulu and I cast Tom Cruise in his prime or Gary Oldman or Javier Bardam or DDL, wouldn't you have reservations, even know you know they're great actors?

I've tried and tried not to get pumped for this movie. Love the books, but I'm scared of how well this story will translate on the screen. But after an unfinished trailer I've held out as long as I can... I'm pumped

My body is ready. I'm halfway through reading Wolves now.
I really hop this movie jumpstarts the franchise and we end up with a few mainline films, some backstory character films, and maybe an HBO series. It'd be really frickin cool if they tied in a Stand movie also.
ETA: They already tied the amazon series on 11/23/63 to the Tower as well.

I thought it was a great choice. Yes, it references Roland of the books more so than Elba, maybe it's an homage more than a slap.

Impossible to do right of you stick to the book. Maybe ya trilogy of 3 hour movies. Maybe. It'd have to be a miniseries.

Oh, I'd love a miniseries. I just want to see all of the worlds of the Tower on the screen in some fashion.

Nothing about this speaks true.
They have forgotten the face of their father.
Jake isn't Jake.
The Man in Black isn't the Man in Black.
Roland isn't Roland.
Before, I said I'd rather have something than nothing.
I was wrong. Sometimes the Something is just too wrong. A complete betrayal of what should be.
If Ka is a wheel then maybe it best turn once more.
I didn't see a glimmer of the line of Eld.
The Walkin' Man must have stepped out.
Jake Chambers should have stayed falling.
If there was to be a Drawing then this Drawing isn't the one.
Damn these Honkey Mafahs.
They drew wrong.
Say No Thankee sai.
