Just finished it on HBO now... BvS was still a very weak film, and they really should have stuck with the original sooo much more than they did.

But I have to say, Batman's morality in BvS makes way more sense now that I've seen tdkr.

P.S: I think this was the best animated movie I have ever seen, just ahead of planet hulk

It is pretty amazing. I haven't, nor will I, see BvS in the theater. i watched a bullshite, washed out bootleg of it on Bobby Movie Box and it was tough to sit through but I openly don't care for Cavill's Superman. I liked Affleck's Batman and Gadot's Wonder Woman though.

I like how Batman gets drug back into the role after retiring in Returns and then faces the consequences of it. I also like seeing how Superman is a type of puppet for the US to use much like the basis for Civil War.

The Dark Knight Returns & The Flash are a picture of everything right with DC

....

BvS is a picture of everything wrong with it. Hopefully Johns can right the ship and it's not too late.

The animated movie adaptation is solid, though it feels kind of flat in some places. Comics like TDKR and Watchmen belong in a vacuum. Comic writers and directors have been shamelessly aping it for years without the self-awareness that they were making something that those comics tried to deconstruct and satire.

It was always a mistake to use TDKR and Death of Superman (which is a bad comic with a terrible villain) as a launching pad for the DC movieverse. It's cliché at this point, and I think a lot of fans woke up to the fact that much of the grimdark shite they thought they wanted is stupid and tired.

My issue with DC films versus DC animated is pretty simple. Everyone knows the origins of all the big characters so just stop with them. There is no need to revisit an origin of superman again or batman again. Get the story going and make it for fans.

The animated movies assume that you know and like the characters and just tell the story. This is why they are so good, they don't waste time with a bunch of filler bullshite.

The Dark Knight Returns ruined Batman. It's retarded.

The thing is that Batman had been at it for like 30 years in TDKR. His level of morality makes sense after all of what he's seen. Yes, its in every way better than BvS, but Snyder doesn't have a remote understanding of why it works. If he did, he would have never launched the franchise with it and the Death of Superman. I really think that most people on this board understand storytelling more than Snyder.

I agree it ruined it in a way, but its because lesser storytellers have misinterpreted it. Seriously, we've had 4 fricking movies based off TDKR this decade. It's ridiculous. It's still a fine story, but its the FINAL Batman story. People completely don't get this. You sure as frick don't start a franchise with that as the primary source.

Zack Snyder's outdated, callous 'vision' for these characters is completely at odds with Jeff Johns'.

Everyone says that about "Batman Begins." "Batman's dark." I'm like, "Okay, no, Batman's cool." He gets to go to a Tibetan monastery and be trained by ninjas. Okay? I want to do that. But he doesn't, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that's how that would go.

It's hard to understand heroism or sacrifice when you're a fricking sociopath.

It's great, but have you seen Under The Red Hood, Mask of the Phantasm, Batman TAS, Iron Giant, Brave Little Toaster, Toy Story, Aladin, Nightmare before Christmas.

Excellent diagnosis. I was a huge Marvel Comics geek as a kid, but none of the characters were as mainstream and branded as Batman and Superman. They don't need to be introduced, they just need a good story with actors who meet some expectations.

On the other hand, you can tinker with Wolverine's costume or origin story and it doesn't piss off near as many fans. Even hardcore Marvel fans are used to the idea of different characterizations.

Under The Red Hood

this is, without a doubt, the best batman/DC animated movie ever.

The fans ruined Batman. They elevated DKR and Killing Joke from cult status to status quo.
