It got a lot of hate on this board, but I gave it a shot this weekend. It's currently on HBOGO. I really enjoyed it and found all three characters likable. I thought Brody especially was fantastic. The story was a little out there, but I was laughing/smiling the entire time. The opening scene with Murray is beautifully done.

This is a movie that I can always have on in the background I believe. So many funny lines. When Brody is clearly upset that his kid died like it's a competition.

I'm not a Wes Anderson fanboy, but I have been trying to watch his stuff lately. I honestly might have liked this one more than Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

I thought he was more upset b/c it confirmed in his mind that he was not fit to be a father.

I loved this movie for some reason. I can't put my finger on it.

Possibly this too. But the wording was just so great. "Mine didn't make it."

It was like they had quickly drawn lots. And in reality, he was the one who identified the crisis and told them to start running. So he saved two lives.

Sure, he saved two lives but he still had a kid essentially die in his arms.

On top of that, his father also died right in front of him after getting hit by the taxi.

Dude was traumatized.

Yeah. I agree with what you're saying. I still think Wes wrote it to get a quick laugh in addition to the serious element.

Yeah, the funeral scene is great. Big turn in the movie and is done beautifully. I have the criterion.
