Cormac McCarthy doesn't know how to write dialogue for movies

That may be a large part of it. The review I read in the WSJ said that every line in the movie was written as if it were scripture. I'm a fan of Cormac McCarthy but I could see him doing this with a movie script (which he has not written before). The reviewer seemed to put more blame on Ridley Scott, though, and said that if he had tried to inject a little humor it would have been a much better movie.

It's a shame, with the cast and McCarthy writing it this is one I had high hopes for. I'll still rent it but a good movie does not get this many scathing reviews.

Haven't seen it, but from what I understand the biggest problem is McCarthy's lousy screenplay. He's better off allowing his printed work to be adapted for the screen.
