Is now available for streaming.
The Confession Tapes: A Netflix Original
This true crime documentary series investigates cases where people convicted of murder claim their confessions were coerced, involuntary or false.
After Making a Murderer and The Keepers, Netflix is really going after cops, corruption and the criminal justice system.

I don't think I'm gonna watch this. The fact that so many people get threatened and coerced into false confessions is more disturbing than any horror movie ever could be.
I mean the worst is when a spouse is murdered by someone other than the husband/wife, but due to little to no hard evidence they harrass and force them into a confession.
I'm glad there are people shedding light on it though, for sure.

I want Sebastian's dad to narrate my life.

The first one is pretty bad (great story, bad in a sense of a sting operation for confession) but really great to learn what illegal shite went down to convict people.
Something that is illegal in America, was used on two guys in Canada, and then allowed to be used as the primary evidence in a courtroom back in the US.
False confessions are a fascinating thing because most Joe public doesn't even understand how it's possible - hell, even the judge in the 1st episode acts obtuse about the validity of the confession and the crazy methods used to obtain it. But false confessions are a real thing, common and therefore it's why they police use tactics to illicit them.
(One interesting thing about Episode 1 is they are right, if the crime happened after 9/11, the State might have accepted exculpatory evidence they thought crazy at the time in the 90's.)
What the episodes show is it's common practice for police to focus on one suspect - and ignore everything else until they get a confession.
The 3rd episode is frightening as hell.
(Anyways, it's a very well done series and very educational and it doesn't appear as slanted as Making a Murderer - they give every prosecutor ample time in each episode to explain their viewpoint.)

The most despicable thing the State and prosecutors do after their wrongful convictions get vacated...they threaten again for a 2nd or 3rd trial just to plea bargain a time-served conviction sentence...
So they can have a conviction back on the record and the State can say they did nothing wrong in a wrongful conviction lawsuit.
And all it is but an extortion conviction - a bargained for stay out of jail card for people who can't afford nor want to risk another trial.

Okay...so that's 5 episodes - and this series is legit.
I mean, it's sort of like a real life Law and Order - where each episode is different but reality and focused on the wrongfully imprisoned but gives great synopsis of every case.
The woman in prison in episode 5 says it best: "no matter how innocent you know you are, get an attorney and stay silent...never talk to the police. You think they are your friend because they are supposed to serve and protect...they are not your friend."

Pretty good series.
Seems like Joe public just wants to assign blame in most of these situations. TBH I used to think this way also, but now I'm much more skeptical.
The Public Apology - Flase confession
The Labor Day - Flase confession
Trail by Fire - maybe, I didnt like that arrogant arson expert.
From her interview she seemed believable.
8&H - that was throwing the cast net
Down River - maybe, from his interview he seemed believable.

I do believe that Sebastian and Atif were the murderers.

I watched the first two episodes last night. I thought it was really good. It definitely had a Making a Murderer feel to it.

I do too, but there is no reason they should have been convicted. But the female juror basically said she thought they were guilty when the trial began because the prosecutor was handsome, and that Sebastian and Atif were arrogant.

While that was a dumb thing to say by that juror, we didn't get all the evidence from that documentary. That documentary was severely slanted.

Started watching this yesterday evening and nearly every case leaves me pissed off in one way or another.
I have to say that how carefree some of the jurors are in the interviews is pretty fricked up. But not totally surprising.

Why exactly what's the motive?
My two main issues with saying they are guilt is that their story taken from RCMP doesn't add up from the evidence gathered from the crime scene (Someone else was in the room with Atifs father while he was murdered).
Also, the Washington police never looked into the terror group that had killed another East Indian family previously in the Bellevue area.
