What did you think about this movie? Decent?
Posted on 3/23/12 at 3:19 pm to TulaneTigerFan
I thought it was pretty good. But what blew my mind is all the screaming tween girls in attendance. They were trying to make it the next Twilight which it is anything but. Yea there's a "love story" but it's almost nonexistent and is used as a metaphor for reality TV romance aw opposed to the tween fantasy love of Twilight. Also it was a few less editing tricks away from being graphically violent.

Yes. As most here know, I go to movies on average twice a week in the morning for the matinee and because theaters are less crowded then.
The real trolls on this forum are those who accuse me of not seeing the movies I review and those who follow me around here, as though they were disciples of ridicule.
As for the charge of being a moron, that's your call. But being ignorant of pop culture because I have no television and spend my free time reading rather than being entertained does not equate to being a moron.
I have not seen Winter's Bone. But the actress in Hunger Games did not impress me at all.

Never Say Never Never would I think I'd say that spending $10 on my Never Say Never ticket was the best value for money of anything I bought this year, but here I am to say that. The movie itself is good. It's an interesting documentary on a kid who is trying to stay a kid in this big world. The music is great. The sequence and timing are superb. But what puts this movie over the top are the fans. That's right. By the end of the movie, 75% of the theater, consisting mostly of early and pre-teen girls were on the ground level with their hands up, screaming and touching the screen as if the movie were a concert. It was exhilarating to be in that number! I confess I too ran down to the floor and began dancing and screaming with the masses. What an awesome movie experience. Movie 6/10 Experience 10/10.
I will never take anything you say seriously after reading that

You mad
Cuz you were not worthy of a seed.
And even madder because no one nominated you or said anything about you not being there. Cloaked in anonymity even in anonymity.

I'm picturing this like the pool scene in Little Children when Jackie Earle Haley goes to swim with his snorkel on.
ETA: I can't stress how creepy that must've been.

No but I am fascinated at how much effort you put into your online persona.

To be fair I think you really needed to read the books first. One of the weaknesses ofthe movie imo is that it doesnt fly well solo. I love it however.. But I read the books twice in the last few months.

I thought it did a pretty good job of introducing the story, though, if you don't know it's part of a trilogy, as I did not, and I may be the only person in America who did not know that, the ending can be dissatisfying and strange. It did a much better job of allowing a person who hasn't read the books into its world than say the Harry Potter movies, which do not stand alone well.

OP must work for the Academy.

So was there no conclusion like Matrix Reloaded or was there actually a conclusion but room for more such as Matrix or Star Wars?
I hate movies without conclusions. (Matrix was the first thing that came to my mind...sorry)

I applied, but they said I didn't know enough about the outdoors for the job.
The ending of this movie is a bit disappointing and there is no conclusion. But it does leave you ready for more. How it continues will be interesting, but I wish they had spent perhaps a minute or two longer on the return to 12.

The acting in this movie was borderline bad.
I heard the exact opposite.

The only thing wrong with this movie is the camera work.
The acting is very good.
Stays close to the book.
If not for the bad camera work I would give it a 7.1 range, with what we got I would still say near 6.6/7.
Some want more action and blood and guts, if they did put it in the movie it would be rated r and this movie is aimed for the teens; so it wasn't going to happen.

The supposed virtuoso in the film is a girl with black hair. I've never seen her before. I wasn't impressed with her either. But these action epics often settle for what they can get, because what type of top flight actress wants that role? She carries her talisman, gifted to her by her sister, as her aegis. Her real shield, however, is her humanity. It is what sees her through the horribleness of her situation. The situation, of course, is the human battlefield-stadium, all too reminiscent of last year's remake, Predators. As the paladin of humanity, she wins her audience with a thaumaturgy of love, not strength or skill. Isn't that how Christ won over his audience as well?
I seriously should have stopped reading after this paragraph. You don't know who Jennifer Lawrence is? What about Woody Harrelson? Donald Southerland? Liam Hemsworth? Stanley Tucci?
Also I think it is really weird how many kids movies you go see. Really hope your kids are the ones making you go see some of these other movies you reviewed.
Furthermore, I just got back from seeing the movie and while it was not sold out, it was pretty packed and I was surprised at how many men and women were in there older than myself. I thought the movie played out well. I expected better effects for Katniss and Peeta's costumes but overall, I thought the special effects in the movie were well served and not overly done. Their time in the cave was cut too short for me but I understand it probably wouldn't have worked to have them in there under a rain storm for several days. My husband went into this movie knowing only a preview he saw and left finding it really weird that we just watched children slaughter each other. He was interested to know what happens next, since the movie abruptly ends the way it does. I did cry over the Rue scene and am glad they slowed the movie down a little to play that out for the next movie. I would give the movie a 7.5/10 and I look forward to the next one.

I also hear the acting is exceptional, especially from J. Lawrence and Woody.

The acting was fantastic across the board. My favorites were Woody as Haymitch and Tucci as Caesar.
