It now only needs 25 million to pass Avatar's adjusted for information numbers and move to #14 of all time. It will likely break into the top ten adjusted for inflation.

Internationally, it is being reported that it opened in China and broke the Saturday record and the two day record. It now sits at #3 worldwide (all time).

I think there is still a slight chance that it could eventually hit 1 billion in the US and take Titanic's worldwide #2 spot, but I don't see it breaking Avatar's worldwide record.

Just think, someone could win more than that the Wednesday night for buying a $2 ticket while purchasing a 6 pack of beer and a pack of Marlboro's

It will not beat Avatar worldwide. It simply doesn't the legs internationally that Avatar did. Despite it's huge U.S. take, Avatar actually did 72% of its business internationally. Star Wars is only at about 51% international. China will probably end up around $300M and international at best will get to 60% of gross. There are no more international markets for it to open in.

How the hell did Avatar do so well? I've only seen about ten minutes of it and I checked out

Sadly because it was the most perfectly made movie for the world wide masses ever. TFA was made for the fans, and while sizable, can't hope to meet Avatar's worldwide visual appeal.

Not to mention the fact that everyone saw Avatar in 3D while most saw Star Wars in 2D.

You obviously did not see it in theaters. In 2009, it was a very unique experience. It was the first good 3D experience. It was almost like going on a ride. I saw it 4 times in the theater because it was just so much fun to watch. I think I may have seen it once all the way through on Blu Ray. It isn't nearly the same experience on my TV.

I'm still interested in how much this movie makes overall (merchandise, liscenses, etc). Given when it was released, it had to move a ton of toys and every other tv commerical features Star Wars. Is it crazy to think Disney could have made their money back off just this film after everything is added up?

I read an article a few weeks ago that stated Disney made more than 5 billion during 2015 simply selling Star Wars merchandise. I don't remember where I read that, and I never tried to verify it. Could you imagine, though???

Here it is. Forbes reported that experts claimed Disney sold $3 billion in 2015, and will sell another $5 billion in 2016.

That is insane. The movie will make $2 billion. That is $10 billion by the time Rouge One debuts.
