Right now the future of Supergirl is up in the air. The series starring Melissa Benoist completed its first season back in April, and CBS has yet to officially announce that the show has been renewed for a second season. However, there might be a good reason for that. A new report reveals that while CBS wants to bring the show back, it’s hard for them to justify bringing it back with the price tag of about $3 million per episode due to licensing fees. And when you look at the show’s ratings, spending that kind of money on the show just doesn’t make sense.

quote:

CBS just so happens to co-own The CW with Warner Bros. Entertainment, and it sounds like there may be a potential plan to move Supergirl over there. But some sacrifices will have to be made to keep it afloat.

quote:

the downside to moving over to The CW would be a much smaller budget. The CW just wouldn’t be able to pay for a show that’s as expensive as Supergirl, so plenty of cuts would be made. That could create some problems in the visual effects department, but the network has been able to keep The Flash going strong with a limited budget, so it’s not impossible.

Supergirl has plenty of fans, but after the show racked up 13 million viewers for the series premiere last October, about half of those viewers has dropped throughout the rest of the season. Those ratings wouldn’t be so bad over at The CW.

Shocked. It should have been on the CW the whole time. It's always looked like a shitty CW show, not even like a female Smallville which would have been solid.

Was never impressed with the previews. Have not seen one episode.

Moving it to the CW would do it a world of good.

Move it from the grandparents network and move it to the real comic book network that knows how to handle comic book shows.

This show has a ton of potential and it would be so very and incredibly disappointing just to give it one season.

You should.

It had an ok first half of the season. It finished a pretty strong first half.

Honestly, this show is the opposite of what we're seeing with movie Superman given that it's full of joy, color, heart and adventure and Suerpgirl understands and looks at the world and its people like Superman really should.

I can't wait to see Superman eventually show up in this after the teases we got this past season.

Budget will be severely cut. Currently is at 3 million per episode

A big part of that 3 million is licensing fees. DC entertainment is owned by Warner bros. Warner Bros owns half of CW. That's why all the DC universe is on CW. They are using a sister company for synergy! Marvel is owned by Disney and so is ABC and that's why agents of shield is on ABC.

We should put Arrow on that channel. It sure could use it.

Not sure where they would put it on the CW. All of their shows but one have been renewed and the one that hasn't been renewed yet, is very likely to be renewed.

They are already starting to gay up the network. Might as well bring SJW shows too.

I've only seen a few episodes of Supergirl but is this a SJW show? I know the hero is a woman but she is hot as hell and that costume is so tight. I watch it just for that.

Agree with this. The Smallville model for success is well established from my perspective. The potential is there; just needs better execution.

Isn't supernatural like the longest running series on television?

Such a good show.

Easy. Mondays. Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex Girlfriend are 30 minute shows that run on Mondays.

Flash and iZombie/Containment are on Tuesdays

Arrow and Supernatural are on Wednesdays

Legends of Tomorrow and The 100 are on Thursdays

Originals/Reign and Vampire Diaries are on Fridays

They could afford to trim down Legends of Tomorrow by a few episodes.
