I remember the Big Wheel commercial where the kid would pack a sandwich in the box behind the seat, cruise the neighborhood then eat the sandwich at a park or something relatively far from home.

That's not true. There was a fair amount of crime during the 70s and 80s.

There was crime, but there wasn't the abject paranoia that your kids would get abducted and raped like more recent times.

When I was 8, it was ok for me to ride my bike miles away from the house, as long as I was with my brothers and the other neighborhood kids. Nobody was older then 12 or 13. We would be gone until after dark.

Wonder Twins sucked.

Marvin and Wendy were better.

Neither group of kids were as good as Jan and Jace, or Jonny and Hadji.

Elctra Woman & Dyna Girl

, and don't forget Isis. Those live-action superheroines definitely shaped my childhood fantasies...

however, I was always a little leery of Shazam. Something odd about Mentor cruising around in the RV

Don't anger the Elders. They really saved some money with those static cartoon shots of the Elders.

I had to be home before dark. That was the golden rule. Based on the crap today, my parents would have been arrested for allowing me to "Free Range" and I would be stuck in a foster home.

Even the Smurfs were great. Actually had an episode in which they spread a virus by biting each other on the arse.
