The Game made a pretty good doc. Details the history of Compton.

Cliffs through the first 40 mins: great white neighborhood in the 40s; white flight in 50s and 60s, especially after Watts riots; gangs formed to protect against racist white gangs attacking them in the 50s (the racist white gangs, all of whom later obviously joined the LAPD). Then gangs start having turf wars in the 70s. Black on black crime is starting now, at the 35 minute mark.

Then they talk about Black flight because the drug turf wars.

Richard Williams is moving his daughters' into Compton in 1983 to teach them hard core dangerous tennis.

A bit of trivia: James Coburn was raised in Compton

quote:

Coburn was born on August 31, 1928 in Laurel, Nebraska, the son of James Coburn, Jr. and Milet Johanson; his father was of Scots-Irish ancestry and his mother was an immigrant fromSweden. The elder Coburn had a garage business that was destroyed by the Great Depression.[7] Coburn himself was raised in Compton, California, where he attended Compton Junior College.
