Stranger Things really does an awesome job with 80’s references.

Just verified an awesome super subtle Easter egg.
When the military breaks in to the missile silo to go after El, the officer tells them to “quarter and search by twos”.

When I heard it I thought “that’s an unique phrase” and I knew I’d heard it before. I was pretty sure where.

Aliens. When they enter the atmosphere plant for the first time, Lieutenant Gorman tells the colonial marines that exact phrase.

That’s a deep cut and makes me love ST even more.

Hat's off to the Duffer Brothers.

The sirens going off and the shot of the bunker reminded me of Aliens a ton. That’s great.

The flamethrower bit in Russia reminded me of The Thing.

Then falling on the mattress in the upside down reminded me of Little Monsters.

In the finale of S4 during the scene when Max is in the hospital with Lucas, Lucas read aloud to Max 'The Talisman' by Stephen King and Pater Strab. That's a tease for Duffer Brothers' next Netflix project.

Robin’s crush Vickie had an unmistakeable Molly Ringwald vibe when she was at the gun show.

That’s funny me and my wife were just talking about how they are making her look so much like her.

the storming of the bunker is a homage to the opening of a new hope.

When the girls went to visit victor creel in the psych ward, clearly they were alluding to Silence of the Lambs. Also just having Robert Englund play Victor was a nod to his work as Freddy Krueger and killing teens in their sleep. I also couldn’t help but think of It and Salem’s Lot with the whole plan to go on the offensive and kill the bad guy in its own sleep essentially. Vecna used their worst fears against them ala pennywise.

Pretty sure Murray said "I've got a bad feeling about this." when they were going back into the prison

When the military broke into the bunker all I could think about was Star Wars.

The way they guards lined the sides of the tube, an explosion and smoke with military rushing in followed by the Ominous general.

Funny thing is, the Duffer Bros. didn't catch this, and have said in subsequent interviews that it was totally unintentional. It makes for a much better explanation for why Will is so pissy with Mike, since Mike came all the way out to CA to see Elle and totally forget's Will's birthday.

Well, that and Will's impossibly closeted.

Pretty sure there is a scene in Alien 4 where Winona Ryder’s character wanders amongst alien hybrids in great big jars, just like she did at the prison in this episode.

I saw that and thought “that has to be unintentional”

Because Will does blow up at Mike for being a shitty friend and doesn’t bring up that Mike completely forgot his birthday.

Overall the show is great. If you like to nitpick shows it can get rough.

Like the Van scene.

I think Mike was supposed to just come off as preoccupied with 11, but he comes off as oblivious at best and indifferent at worst. Clearly they wanted Will to have a moment and it looks like they wanted that to be private and sorta hidden from everyone but Johnathan, but they did it in a very small space.

Was just thinking with Paul Reiser in Aliens, maybe they’ll bring in Fred Savage or Kurt Russell in Season 5 Fred Savage would be awesome. It’s too bad Corey Feldman is batshit insane but he would’ve been an awesome addition somewhere along the way.

The one everyone missed. When Vecna can’t kill Max, he pulls out the ultimate D&D reference: Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies.

The scene in the bunker where the military breaks in gave me Serious opening scene to A New Hope vibes.
