quote:

•"Iron Man": "We wanted Bill to consider a role in 'Iron Man,' but nobody could find him," Robert Downey Jr. said.

•"Bad Santa": "According to director Terry Zwigoff, Murray made a verbal agreement to do the film, but when the time came to sign his contract, he was incommunicado," Schnakenberg writes. Zwigoff said, "I left several messages on his answering machine, but after a few weeks of hearing nothing, we eventually moved on."

quote:

"Splash": "According to actress P.J. Soles, when she presented Murray with the script, he proceeded to fling it across the room in disgust."

quote:

"Airplane!": "This is gonna work, but it's not," Murray was quoted as saying about the cult favorite, after turning down the lead role of Ted Striker.

I'm sure some of these are just "Hollywood lore", but entertaining nonetheless.

He doesn't have an agent, he just has an answering machine. Murray's response is that it's a lot harder to write a good script than it is to get hold of him.
I heard they wanted him for Little Miss Sunshine -- I guess for the role that Steve Carell ended up with.
He also apparently took the voiceover role in Garfield because he thought the Joel Cohen who wrote the screenplay was Joel Coen, as in one of the Coen brothers.

mad respect to Bill for sticking only with projects that are artistically interesting to him and not whoring himself out to anything any everything that wants to throw cash his way in exchange for 5 minutes of Pete Venkman in their movie.

Love Bill Murray but these movies are better off without him.

I remember he said his reason for doing Garfield 2 was because he saw "Cohen" as one of the directors and thought one of the Coen brothers was directing it. So he didn't even read the script and signed on to do the movie. He didn't find out until later that it wasn't the director he thought it was.

Also, Bill Murray is overrated as frick. Downvote if you agree

like the other poster said...no agent, no manager, no cell phone contact

I think you have to snail mail the script and pray he likes it...ANd he'll eventually get back to you

Sounds like the ideal simplified life.

I saw an interview with Johnny Depp a couple of years ago (I think it was on Letterman) and he said Bill will just show up unannounced at his house in France, hang out for a week or two, and they would wake up one morning and he would be gone. I'd love to be able to just roam the world like that.

He has a cell phone, he was on Stern last week talking about it. Said texting was the best way to keep in touch with his kids that's the only reason he has one.

I'm glad he didn't compromise his artistic principals and pass on What About Bob?

Yeah man. People were disgusted by his character. The character was extremely unlikable and gross.

He's talked about this on Stern recently, no cell and doesn't answer the phone at his house on the rare occasion he is home. Even his close friends can't reach him, Dan Aykroyd was on Stern and said he couldn't get Bill to read any of his scripts.

He'll show up to random parties hosted by random everyday strangers, sit down and eat with random strangers in restaurants.

Very odd guy.
