Steve Jobs Not Nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay?

Ho-ly fvck. Unbelievable. The only movie even close to Steve Jobs in terms of adapted screenplay is The Big Short (which may actually be better, but that's not the point of this thread). By far the biggest snub of the Oscar nominations IMO. Wow.
And, yes, this deserved its own thread. I feel very strongly about it. Not many people saw Steve Jobs, but anyone who did (whether they liked the movie or title character or not) cannot deny the brilliance of the script.

The most disappointing movie I saw in 2015. Focusing on only 3 days was not the way to go.

Yea, Sorkin deserves a lot of credit for his ability to transition from scene to scene the way he did through the course of 2 hours. And of course a lot of the dialogue was wonderful. But at the end of the day, he made a very poor choice to make the entire movie occur in only 3 days and the product suffered for it. I have no problem with it not being nominated.

Is there a Pretentious Awards show? I'm sure he'd get a nomination there...

Did you actually see the movie? If you did, and you're saying it's not one of the best scripts of the year, you're an idiot.

The Revenant not being nominated for Best Adapted Screeplay was easily the best snub.
How do you lead all movies for nominations without the best screenplay?

I did see it. And thank you for branding me as an idiot based on my not agreeing with your tastes.
A string of cleverly crafted lines of dialogue do not necessarily make for the best script of the year. You also have to tell a story and tell it well. Jobs was more of an interesting exercise than a great movie. "What if Steve Jobs had a life changing interaction with three of the most important people in his life prior to the launch of these three products?" Interesting, but not great.

quote:The plot of any movie can be reduced to a one- or two-liner that makes it sound uninteresting. It's the intelligence of the writing - how the story is told, rather than the story itself - that makes a great script. Take Spotlight and The Big Short, the other best scripts of the year. Does a story about a few Wall Street investors' bet against the housing market or some newspaper reporters' investigation of a priest abuse scandal sound like something that would make a great story? Not really. But the writing makes it irresistible. As does the behind-the-scenes story of Jobs' personal relationships and his role in the computer revolution.

I was more excited to see those two movies than I was to see another take on Steve Jobs. I went to see Jobs for Fassbender, not the excitement of the Steve Jobs story.

The biggest snub IMO Is Carol being left out for best picture and having shite like the Martian up for the award.
This entire awards season has been strange with some really bad nominations and equally bad winners.
