This post and thread will definitely contain spoilers to the books and potentially to the movie so don't read if you don't want to be spoiled

SPOILERS BELOW

Stephen King tweeted this today:

LINK

With the following comment:

quote:

The Dark Tower is close, now. The Crimson King awaits. Soon Roland will raise the Horn of Eld. And blow.

As those who have read the book know, when Roland reaches the top of the Tower he starts his journey over but this time with the Horn of Eld that he was missing the first time around. With this change it looks like the movie may make this Roland's final journey to the tower His "last time around" the wheel of you will

So I guess you could argue that this is in a way a sequel to the books

If this show goes 7 or 8 seasons and is popular and they ended it where it begins like the books HBO burns down.

I am very much looking forward to this show!

I am just happy they chose a black man to play Roland. We need more diversity.

It's a movie. And there's obviously no way he gets all the way to the tower in one movie.

I also noticed the cast doesn't include an actor for Eddie or Susannah so this will be just the first book adapted.

I assume they're gonna see how well the first movie is accepted before choosing to start on the second

To be honest. If you had to pick a black guy to play Roland, then idris Elba would be a great choice

But of course it's ridiculous that they picked a black to guy play Roland

But no point in fighting it anymore

I just wish Eastwood was young enough to play the role

I racked my brain trying to think of an ideal white actor for the role

That's fricking awesome. It gives the writers leeway to change things that wouldn't translate to the screen well like the whole "Stephen King as a character" concept. That was fricking terrible.

It should allow them to keep Roland's fingers too.

I know the gist of this book series and the ending. I used to work with a guy who was a huge King fan and had been reading the books since the mid 90's. To say he was pissed at the ending is an understatement.

I always thought they could get Eastwood's son to play Roland. I know he's not as brooding and charismatic as his father but wouldn't he have been perfect? Also I love Elba as an actor, one of the few I will watch basically anything he's in....but c'mon. McCounaghey should be awesome though, hell he could have even been Roland.

I agree that looks-wise he would be perfect but I've never seen the kid act so I have no idea if he could've pulled it off

I feel that Christian bale or a younger Russell Crowe would've been good

Maybe that's just because 3:10 to Yuma gave me a glimpse of them as Cowboys

Major problem with Roland being black is the Detta Walker character calling him and Eddie "honkeys". Guess that's out. Always thought she was a great character

Yeah Bale would be good, but he might even be a touch old now. Goes to show how very few "tough guy" type actors are around anymore, especially American ones.

Roland is older than Bale in the books FWIW.

I hope the movie begins with Roland in a fire and severely burned. It would explain Idris Elba

Jesse pinkman has been cast as Eddie.

Predictable typecast, but I still love it.

They cast a black man as Roland and a white woman as Tiana, a character that doesn't exist in the book.

This is a movie about the dark tower like the last Fantasic Four movie was about the comic.

The movie shares some loose similarities with the source material, but in actuality it's an entirely different IP all together and most likely a shitty one.

That's my major problem. They had a strong, integral, deep, emotional black lead built into the storyline and they ruined it for the sake of Idris Elba.

Don't get me wrong, I THINK Elba will do a good job, but he's not fricking Roland. That's what's so frustrating. He'd make a good lead in a gunslinger movie, but he is not Roland.

Just finished the dark tower vii. My 1st time through the series and wow. Loved it. I do see the backlash with the lead being Idris , and for me it's 0% racial. It just changes large parts of the stories from the repeated blue eyes parts, and odetta/ sususannah dynamic completely. And much more. But I'll be seeing it, but from this news and other aspects, I can already say my expectations are low.
