I never heard of this show before, and when I did I wasn't sold on the premise. Another friend swore by it, and basically promised I would like it.
Basically the show has Russian monsters, corrupt government officials, incestual Amish and incestual Amish mobsters, tribal Indian gangs living on a reservation, skinheads, motorcycle gangs, and corrupt psycho military officers.
This has to be one of the craziest shows I've ever seen, and one of the hardest to stop watching. Each episode is a bit crazier than the last.
What's the TD consensus on it?

That damn show is more awesome than most think and it is crazy from the beginning to the end.

I loved banshee. It was ridiculous and absurd but always had me hooked. Just have to suspend reality to watch it. Loved the way they filmed a lot of the fight scenes. Always felt like it delivered and wasn't just build up all season for 1 payoff.

Banshee had some of the best fight scenes on TV. They were just brutal.
And I loved the show. I agree that you have to suspend your belief to watch it, but it was definitely a fun show to get into.

show is awesome. season 3 is awesome. season 4 pretty much sucks. theres one episode later on in season 3 that was the most intense on tv since the projects scene in season 1 of true detective.

I always describe it as the bastard offspring of Spartacus and Road House.
What's not to love? Excellently filmed fight scenes and violence. Hot women getting naked. If any red-blooded American male does not like this show, he has a huge case of the ghey!!!!
Only thing that would have made the show better would have been if the hottest chick on the show actually got naked.

Just finished the series.
How this show slipped under the radar I have no idea. It's easily in my top 5, and it moves so fast and is often very unexpected.
Every bit as good as sopranos, BB, Wire, SOA, Mad Men, and etc.
I highly recommend.
