But who is Maz, exactly? Abrams tells EW she’s a former pirate, and she’s old:
“Her history is that she was a pirate for a long time,” he says. “She’s lived over a thousand years. She’s had this watering hole for about a century, and it’s like another bar that you’d find in a corner of the Star Wars universe.”
She lives in a castle alongside a number of other “misfits and miscreants”, but Kanata brings a certain mysticism to The Force Awakens in that her eyes have special powers
“I had some specific ideas about how she would work and what she would do,” Abrams says. “I had this pitch about these goggles that she wore. Her eyes are an important aspect of her character, and you’ll see how it plays out.”
We won’t learn Maz’s entire backstory within the context of the film, but Abrams says that will be “forthcoming” in “other venues”, meaning fans looking to learn more about Maz would do well to keep an eye out for Star Wars books and games in the near future.
While Abrams went with a very strong focus on practical effects for The Force Awakens, Maz is an entirely CG character—although she wasn’t initially intended to be:
“I wanted to do the creature as a puppet originally, but once we figured out the things that she was required to do, it felt like [performance capture] was the way to go,” Abrams said.
However, Maz is surrounded by practical creatures in her court, which means the visual effects team had a monumental task ahead of them:
“Maz needed to look and feel and be just like one of those creatures. And given her mobility, and given the role that she played, it became clear that that was one creature where we should use the tool of CG,” he says. “But the performance was all Lupita. She was there on set, and we did capture sessions afterwards as well, and I can’t say enough about working with her.”

Don't know how pumped I am about all the alien like characters in this. But, you know, merchandising.

Hamil and JJ Abrams on the condition of Luke
excerpt:
regarding Finn:
He's going evil guys, or at least struggling between light and dark.
excerpt:
quote:
“In the context of talking about story and laying out what we were thinking, I said one thing to him: ‘Who is Luke Skywalker?’” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told EW in August.
She said she couldn’t elaborate any further on what that question means, but you can read any number of things into it. And all of them may be true.
Who is Luke Skywalker? Is he really the person we thought we knew? Did crude Jedi training and the emotional and physical scars of battle, not to mention learning that a galactic tyrant was his father, take a toll that warped the pie-eyed farmboy who longed for adventure?
Was Yoda right about him being impulsive and impatient? “If you end your training now – if you choose the quick and easy path as Vader did – you will become an agent of evil.” Return of the Jedi seemed to prove Yoda wrong. Vader turned, the Emperor was destroyed, and balance – whatever that means – seemed to have been brought to the Force.
But what if Yoda was the misguided warrior, bent by cynicism from his years of fighting the good fight? What if Luke was more noble than the little green guy gave him credit for? It’s possible Luke is engaged in an act of dedication and self-sacrifice that has estranged him from his friends and loved ones, however much they miss him.
regarding Finn:
quote:
He ends up in possession of the lightsaber that once belonged to Luke, and to Luke’s father before him. It was last seen tumbling down an air shaft after Darth Vader sliced off his hand and revealed that he, he was Luke’s father. In this film … it’s an important piece of the puzzle that will reveal Luke’s fate and whereabouts.
He's going evil guys, or at least struggling between light and dark.

You want spoilers? Luke is only in the end of the film if you don't count the flashback where his Jedi Temple is destroyed. Rey is Luke and Leia's kid. She was at the Temple but was too young to remember anything. Luke is guarding a Sith Tomb. Han confronts Kylo who may or may not be his son and dies. Leia is General and has been separated from Han for a long time.

I know that they had another actor portray Luke in the flashback but I hope it was done similarly to how Michael Douglass was de-aged in Ant Man.
I can't wait to see Chewie go bat-shite crazy when Han is murdered. I'm sure he will be Rey's side-kick for the rest of the films.
quote:
Kylo Ren arrives. The gang is on the ramparts of the Castle, and they are cornered. There’s no way out. Han Solo decides to personally confront Kylo Ren, as a means of protecting the others. Finn, Rey, and Chewbacca stop in their tracks. They watch as Han Solo speaks to Kylo Ren, who is most likely his son. Han may try to reason with him. Talk him off the ledge. Suddenly, Kylo Ren silences the conversation with Han Solo forever. He murders Han, his likely father, in cold blood. Leia senses his death through the Force. Chewbacca lets out a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts. At that point, things start to collapse and explode around them, presumably as the charges set earlier do their job. There is an explosion, and the rest of the gang is forced to flee, leaving Han’s body behind as it is immolated in the blasts.

You (and any one else) don't know shite.
Disney is not screening TFA early for reviews and awards to avoid leaks.

I think the backlash would be even worse than Jar Jar Binks.

I don' think he will be full blown evil. More like he has been teetering on the edge with non-proper traning and having ultimate power.
May have spawned Kylo Ren as his former apprentice. Telling him a little about Vader which got Ren obsessed.

In an interview with EW, J.J. Abrams spoke pretty candidly about the First Order and the relationship between Hux and Kylo Ren while also divulging some details on the Order’s new weapon, Starkiller Base. Yep, that Death Star-looking thingy glimpsed in the film’s poster is indeed a Death Star-like weapon built by the First Order to try and succeed where the Empire previously failed:
“It is very much — and it’s acknowledged as such in the movie — apparently another Death Star,” Abrams says. “But what it’s capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power.”
What is that “step forward”? We won’t find out until we see the film, but you can bet it means bad news for the film’s heroes. As for the baddies, Gleeson spoke a bit about the young General Hux, saying the character’s a big fan of discipline:
“There’s an air of superiority, and being better than those people around you. He’s pretty ruthless. A strong disciplinarian would be a mild way of putting it… “You don’t get that high up in your life that quickly unless you’re pretty ruthless. You have to put a few people down on the way to get there.”
Gleeson went on to explain why Hux is driven to the First Order in the first place, citing a desire for—what else—power:
“It’s in the title: order. It’s a desire to lump everything in its place and just have power. The desire for power is hugely motivating for a lot of people and normally the people who want all the power are not the ones who should have it.”
But just because Hux and Kylo Ren are on the same side doesn’t mean they’re besties. In fact, Domhnall says the two characters are quite different from one another:
“He’s kind of opposite Kylo Ren. They have their own relationship, which is individual and unusual. One of them is strong in different ways than the other. They’re both vying for power.”

Riot scenarios.
A) He is evil
B) He is already dead
C) He dies in the movie
In that order. Having him be evil would crush the new series. Luke is still the most important character in the series from a ticket sales standpoint, at least right now. Star Wars sells, but he is the most valuable individual character property.

Actually I do. I've been checking Making Star Wars daily for a year. Everything I mentioned pretty much lines up with the information posted in the OP.
