It's nice to know that they literally pick up at the very scene they left off at (a Star Wars first). Since they always start in space then pan down to something, I'm sure what's going to happen is Kylo and Hux will land from space and meet with Snoke for the opening scene then cut to Luke.
They were only able to film at Skelling Michael for a brief amount of time due to the location affecting natural wildlife so they recreated Luke's home in different parts of Ireland. They are also scouting caves in Mexico.

I want him so powerful that he doesn't even need a lightsaber, kind of like how Yoda was presented in Empire before they screwed him up in the prequels.

I'm really thinking he has gone full exile and cut himself off from the force due to the tragedy of losing all his students. I think he may have turned his back on it.

According to this link, a funeral scene is being filmed on Corellia (Han's home planet) and Lando and Luke will be present.
