Yeah, but it's cheesy as shite.
I get what you're saying, but that cheese fits within the story well. They're an elite special forces/mercenary group, you can expect a lot of competition and testosterone in a film with that type of role. If it's a little over the top, you can attribute it to the team being "the best", and all that stuff happens early on, when they are going against a group of Central American jungle guerrillas.

Sports analogy- scrimmage the Seattle Seahawks defense against a mid-major college team, and see what type of posturing you get.

When it switches to VS Predator, the tone changes quickly. Guys get serious and go to their A game. Arnold might make one silly comment (you're ugly), but that was more of a spit in the eye as he dies moment, rather than something corny.

Well, the cheese fits within Commando too.

It used to be cool way back when to quote Arnold's movies while doing the thick accent. Predator was quoted far more often than Commando. I don't think the OP specified that the movies in question be bad movies.

Why limit it to just Arnold's movies. Stallone had some awesome 80's cheese movies as well.

Cobra and Tango and Cash come to mind.

If you're bringing Kurt Russel into it, there's always Big Trouble in Little China.

And one of the GOAT dark, action movies, Escape From New York.

The Running Man is surprisingly complex in the end though, regardless of how the movie feels. It's a legit science fiction movie. This makes it a little less cheesy. so Commando for me.

One of my favorites from that era. I don't know if it's anywhere close to as cheesy as Commando though.

Yea, Predator should not be included in this thread. No bias whatsoever.

Commando is fairly comedic too, if you watch it that way. Any cheesy action flick is at least half comedy.

Commando and Running Man I think is the the best because of simply how over the top and bad some of the lines are.

"Where's Buzzsaw?"

"He had to split!"

I think Red Dawn would fit nicely here.
