I'm not a diehard fan of the series; I've always preferred Goodfellas to Godfather, but to me the flashback scene at the dinner table is the greatest and most underrated scene in movie history.

It is a great scene, too bad they couldnt get Brando to come back and do it, they tried.

Marlon Brando initially agreed to return for the birthday flashback sequence, but the actor, feeling mistreated by the board at Paramount, failed to show up for the single day's shooting; Coppola rewrote the scene that same day.

The last 5 minutes of II are the pinnacle of cinema.

It's not even the best scene from The Godfather franchise. The baptism scene in The Godfather may not be the most underrated, but it is the greatest scene in movie history. No other scene combines as much symbolism and cinematic genius as that scene.
