The Tales from the Darkside thread got me cruising down memory lane and made me wonder if anyone else loved this movie as much as I did when I was a kid.

This movie terrified and fascinated me equally.

Jonathon Pryce scared me in a way I couldn't really define as Mr Dark.

Loved it as a kid.

Just don't make them like this anymore.

Ray Bradbury is one of the best authors to ever put a word on paper.

His skill for vivid description is unparalleled. Stephen King is a close second.

But what takes King a paragraph to say, Bradbury says in a sentence. Every, single, word, is the perfect choice.

In searching for a picture of the movie poster, I saw where Disney is looking at a reboot. I highly doubt they will be able to match the tone of the original.

Speaking of Stephen King, didn't he basically copy that book w/ his Needful Things?

Prety sure King is a big fan of Bradbury and has included references to his work in several of his novels. I'm also fairly sure that he openly acknowledges Something Wicked as part of his inspiration for Needful Things.

The character in the Rick and Morty episode "Something Ricked This Way Comes" is names Mr. Needful. How's that for awesome?

I loved this as a kid too. Probably haven't seen it in 20 years though. I'm scared to watch it because if it doesn't hold up, I don't want to ruin my nostalgic feelings for it. Does it hold up?

I have thought about reading the book, though. Everything I've ever read by Bradbury has been great.

The wife and I watched it with our teenage daughters about 6 months ago and we both loved it and the girls both said that it was scary and creepy and stuck with them for several days after watching it.

I had a few teachers that would show it at school in the fall near Halloween. I always loved this movie. I referenced it a while back and my wife and kids had no idea what I was talking about. Time to find a copy and show them I guess.

my wife and I had a phase where we watched everything that we loved as children. Some held up well, some not so much.

After we watched about 5 movies, we determined we were going to stop as most of them didn't hold up.

one that got us was raiders. We loved it, but it wasn't that great on rewatch. It wasn't horrible but the pacing was off, the story somewhat stupid and the acting was a cheesefest.

What did hold up was romancing the stone. Boy was that a good movie.

You loved Romancing the Stone but thought Raiders is only mediocre... I'm always for supporting opposing opinions but I've gotta tell ya', you won't find much support for this. Raiders is pretty much considered to be a top 3 movie of all time for many on here, including myself. To each their own.

My two are this movie and "Watcher in the Woods". Watched 'em young, terrifying.
