Space shite is cool, the majority of us will not experience what astronauts do. Science and religion clash, get used to it, but please keep the attitude that has won you dislike on any other board you post on off of here.

I'm an atheist, but I resent atheist advocacy pieces masquerading as science documentaries.

Not that I think there's not room for an overlap. It's just that it's so overdone now.

Although I'm an atheist, I haven't much cared for the movement since 2007. After creationists were humiliated at Dover, PA, I view them as mostly harmless nowadays.

One of the many problems with this show. I'm pretty middle of the road, and this show is pretty bad so far in my opinion.

I'm not sure why MacFarlane didn't just use his wealth to organize a re-broadcast of the original Cosmos on Fox?

He could have organized a Talking Dead-style after program to discuss the updated science for each episode.

I'll bet he's a completely normal person that happens to disagree with your views and that pisses you off

I haven't seen the show. How is it an atheist rant? do they bring up religion?

I dunno, when I was a little kid I was interested in space and whatnot but now it seems like a waste of resources and talent, other than the satellite business.

I watched the first episode yesterday and have the second one on DVR. I got no atheistic vibes from it. In fact, it was pretty damn cool how they broke down the age of the observable universe and scaled it to one calendar year. That was phenomenal.

Yea, but they spent 1/4 of the show on Bruno (killed by the church), but barely mentioned Copernicus or Galileo (neither killed by the Church)
Why spend so much time on him unless to show the brutality of the church?

To show science's struggle with the Church, maybe? I'm a Catholic but I can see the validity in showing how wrong the Church was back then. I don't see why that's got to be some indictment on the Church today.

i think the argument goes, if this is about science, then why do we even need to know that much about religious persecution?

Because that was a huge hurdle science had to overcome to actually be considered. The Church's influence was so great, it is a necessary topic to show science breaking through.

I guess I just don't see the harm in it. Plus, it was episode one, where we begin the cosmic journey. We have to start somewhere.

Maybe saying that it wasn't always as easy to research the unknown.

I haven't seen the second episode yet. Is there anything in it that would be considered "atheistic" or is this just stemming from the Bruno bit?

That's the history of science, not science itself..
