That was good enough for the top stop on the box office lists. Surely, you can find the Lion King DVD for like $10. Is 3D really that much of a draw for people?

3D and seeing it on the big screen.

The Lion King is amazing on the big screen with theater quality audio.

It made $40MM in its opening weekend in 1994. I also just read that its made $784 million since '94. Pretty good investment by Disney.

It was a fun experience for a lot of people when they initially saw it in theaters. Those people probably want to share that experience with their kids. It's a great movie. I don't think people went just because of the 3D.

i would imagine it was a great opportunity to bring your kids to see one of the greatest kid movies ever made.

a lot of people were probably kids when the movie came out and now can bring their own children to it. pretty awesome move by disney if you ask me

If they did this with Aladdin I would be first in line with my 5 year old. I still remember seeing it in the theatre as a child and being amazed. I would absolutely love to share that with my son.

I was 13 when it came out in '94 and if I had kids I'd probably take them to something like this since it seems everything else that comes out anymore is just absolute crap compared to that run of movies Disney had during the late 80s/early 90s.

I know I've considered taking my cousin's kiddo to see it. He eats that shite up.

I would imagine that after a $30MM weekend, they are blowing the dust off of Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.

I was 8 years old when The Lion King came out in theaters. I remember the day I went to see it as clear as yesterday. If it hadn't been re-released in 3D I probably would have gone to see it. I'm not paying $11.50 for a ticket.

Even if it wasn't in 3d, it would probably still gross +20MM

It's only the best movie Disney has ever done

I actually believe The Lion King is in the "Disney Vault", so it actually isn't available on Blu Ray/DVD.

TLK has been in the Disney Vault for 7-8 years. It's a marketing ploy for Disney so that can create a 'false demand' for people--i.e. "Oh, Aladdin's on DVD now, better go buy it before it goes back into the Vault next month because it won't be back for another 7 years" kind of false demand.

I've bought into this marketing ploy and own quite a few Disney DVD's and Blu-rays. I plan on showing them to my future kids someday because the Disney/Pixar movies nowadays are very hit and miss. The last Pixar movie I liked was "Up", and probably the last Disney movie was Enchanted (if that counts as animated but it's also live action). Princess and the Frog was OK; fairly decent, cute movie, but lacking compared to the Disney 2-D films that I grew up with that had great Alan Menken soundtracks .

Saw it.

Would pay to see it again.

Worth every penny. I was very impressed with the 3D. Much better than the use of 3D in movies such as Avatar
