Are we getting a Doctor Who-Sherlock cross-over?

BBC released a new photo teasing Sherlock’s upcoming special episode, which EW first confirmed will indeed actually take place during the Victorian era (thus, the throwback clothes and Martin Freeman’s rather spectacular hipster stash).
No premiere dates for the special, or for season 4, have yet been revealed, though the one-off special is presumed to be airing around the holidays in the UK.

I just found my new timeline pic. And my new desktop wallpaper. And my new phone wallpaper. And my wallpaper wallpaper. And I'm getting a tattoo.
From the quotes at the bottom of the page.
+2 years is a long time between content. Hopefully the special does indeed get released around the holidays.

Really not interested in this gimmick episode. Sure, I'll watch it and it will probably be decent enough but I don't get the point of it.
They needed to do something this year to keep fans interested and they couldn't pick up where they left off so they came out with a plot that has nothing to do with the actual show.
Smarter writers would have created a story that takes place before the last season finale and yet it somehow ties into the ongoing storyline.

Yeah but, if they wanted to, Cumberbatch and Freeman could do this show for decades with the format they use.

Interview with Moffat linked in article
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So, what do you feel comfortable telling us about season 4—or “series” 4, as it’s called in the U.K.?
STEVEN MOFFAT: There are answers coming to questions which nobody has asked. There’s one thing that no one has really brought up…
Can you say what the question is?
No. We’ve actually set up something, I think—[co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we’re very exultant about a little thing we’ve set up that no one is talking about.
The episodes get so heavily analyzed it’s surprising that fans have overlooked something.
It’s not that we’re being clever. We never know. Sometimes people go mad for one thing we think is quiet trivial and completely ignore something we think is standing right in front of you.
What exactly are they referring to?

Why are you complaining about this? It's going to be a fun throw away. Get over yourself.

Except that the original Sherlock Holmes is set in the Victorian Era? How hard is it to not get a holiday special that's a throwback to the original?

Complaining about more Sherlock smh

Exactly. I don't care if they do an episode 200 years in the future and they dress and live like the Jetsons. It's more Sherlock.
I'd REALLY like to see a Sherlock/Doctor Who crossover, but not sure how they'd pull it off, as Sherlock is fiction... and not like Robin Hood and based on an actual person.

Season 3 was trash. 1/3 of the season (Ep. 2) was bullshite fluff because they had no plot left.

Um, is Doctor Who real life or something ?

So wait, are you sayin Dr. Who is not fiction?

What... he's not real?
What I meant is that Doctor doesn't take his Tardis and jump into fictional stories... books... and that is what would have to happen if they were to do a Who/Sherlock crossover, isn't it?

I'm new to the Sherlock pain train but I've got that itch.

Doesn't he fights aliens and shite sometimes? You don't think they could make Sherlock a real person in that world?

The last episode was atrocious, so I hope they get back on track for which has been an overall excellent series.
