Gonna be great.

I just came to post this. I'm psyched. I wish we didn't have to wait so long for the next season, but hopefully this one will help hold us over until they finally get the next season out.

Thanks for the heads up. Now I've got something to watch after the game tonight.

It has already aired overseas. I watched it a few hours ago. Solid.

What is this special?
They are doing an episode that is set back in the Victorian era.
ETA: Although you could probably derive that from the OP's thread title.

The BBC doesn't do American style seasons. They do 6-10 episode series, and for the bigger shows, like Doctor Who, Black Mirror, and Luther, they will do a mid season special.

So this is to bridge the next season or just an off shoot episode?

Sometimes they are a bridge, sometimes it's an offshoot. This one is an offshoot. They usually tease the hell out of them over there so you know what you are getting.
For example, Doctor a Who has more often than not used it as a bridge (introducing new Doctors, new companions, etc). This year, they used it as an offshoot.
It just depends on where the show currently stands.

Doubtful. It'll be at least a year. Still excited about this though!

Normal cast?
The absolutely main characters will be the same. They will sometimes mix it up a bit with the secondary ones.

Edit: it's not listed as Sherlock Holmes that's why

It's usually listed under Masterpiece Theater or Masterpiece Mystery, but tonight it's listed as Sherlock on Masterpiece on my guide.

Whole family sitting in living room ready to watch

The question is how can I watch it later? I have a 1 year old that isn't cooperating.
